Our 2023 class is filled with some insane playmakers on the offensive side of the ball, here we check out some of the state's top quarterbacks in our 2023 Rankings! [player_tooltip player_id="127665" first="Christopher" last="Vizzina"]- |6’4 200| |Briarwood Christian| @vizzina2 on Twitter [player_tooltip player_id="127665" first="Christopher" last="Vizzina"] has quickly become not only the best quarterback in the state but one of the best on the national scale as well, and his play speaks for why that is. Vizzina has great size, arm talent, and mobility that have made him unstoppable on the field. Vizzina’s junior season was phenomenal, he helped lead Briarwood Christian to a great 10-2 season, and also put up some of his best numbers to date. In the air, Vizzina completed 136 passes for 2065 yards and 16 touchdowns, and on the ground, Vizzina also found major success, carrying the ball 122 times for 600 yards and 15 touchdowns. As said earlier, Vizzina has not gone unnoticed, having recieved offers from top tier programs such as Clemson, LSU, Auburn, and many more. Simply put, Vizzina is a superstar in the making, and he and Briarwood Christian are going to be a must-watch team this fall! [player_tooltip player_id="235351" first="Ethan" last="Crawford"]- |6’0 200| |Hillcrest| @3thanCrawf0rd on Twitter [player_tooltip player_id="235351" first="Ethan" last="Crawford"] may be one of the most explosive and productive quarterbacks in the entire 2023 class, few can match the ridiculous playmaking ability he has shown on countless occasions at Hillcrest. Crawford is an incredibly talented dual-threat quarterback that can make a variety of difficult passes from the pocket, while also having the ability to use his athleticism to provide a huge advantage in the run game. Last year, Crawford’s numbers alone can illustrate how dominant he was. Crawford was able to complete 149 passes for 2386 yards and 24 touchdowns while also putting up a ridiculous 759 yards and 18 touchdowns on the ground. Crawford has also become a nationally regarded recruit, and currently lists offers from the likes of Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, and more. Expect to see more roll in for him as the fall approaches! [player_tooltip player_id="127669" first="Giovanni" last="Lopez"]- |6’0 210| |James Clemens| @lopezgio1 on Twitter Gio Lopez is a gunslinger with a great ability to control and move the ball. Lopez had a super productive season last fall for James Clemens and in the process posted up some great stats, completing 143 passes for 2387 yards and 22 touchdowns, with an additional 50 attempts on the ground for 380 yards and 7 touchdowns. Lopez excels at maneuvering the pocket and making plays under heavy pressure. Pairing that with his arm talent, he often was able to complete some wild deep passes on the run. If nothing is open or the opportunity arises, Lopez also has the mobility to make plays on the run as well. All of these are contributing factors as to why he has been as good as he has throughout his career. Currently, Lopez lists offers from schools such as UAB, Troy, Charlotte, and more! [player_tooltip player_id="127674" first="Woods" last="Ray"]- |6’2 200| |Homewood| @woodsray_ on Twitter [player_tooltip player_id="127674" first="Woods" last="Ray"] has steadily become a super reliable passer and leader for Homewood’s offense over the last few years. Ray has a great arm and ability to read the field, which comes to his advantage greatly when he’s needed to make a wide variety of tough passes. There are plenty of occasions on film where he presents the ability to both thread the needle on some shorter passes with tighter windows, and when throwing deep Ray delivers the ball with great touch and accuracy downfield. Ray also does a great job of evenly distributing the ball around the field, constantly keeping the defense on their toes. Currently, Ray lists an offer with UAB and as he prepares for his senior season it won’t be surprising to see more head over his way! [player_tooltip player_id="127668" first="Cole" last="McCarty"]- |6’0 160| |Guntersville| @colemccartyy on Twitter [player_tooltip player_id="127668" first="Cole" last="McCarty"] is another dual-threat that is a blast to watch play. Last fall, Guntersville’s offense focused a lot on allowing McCarty to use his mobility and legs to his advantage, and it definitely worked. McCarty is fantastic on the run, using his speed to create some massive plays on the ground. McCarty also has a great ability to complete passes outside of the pocket and has a cannon of an arm, making it near impossible for defenses to adjust to both his and Guntersville’s dynamic playstyle. Last year this proved to be a successful plan, McCarty was able to lead Guntersville to a 9-2 record with an undefeated record in the 5A. Although McCarty does not currently list any offers, he has a ton of raw potential and has shown on film that he has the ability to play at the collegiate level, I’d expect to see some attention head his way soon!
