These five South Dakotas prospects did a fantastic job raising the bar in our second batch of Stockrisers from our most recent February update. From 11AAA to 9-man football these boys got it done in 2021 and are well deserving of a rise on our recruiting board.
KJ Redd KJ Redd 5'11" | 205 lbs | LB Sioux Falls Jefferson | 2023 State | Linebacker | Sioux Falls Lincoln (SD) | 2023
KJ does a excellent job making strong contact on his tackles on the inside and outside zones of the field. He’s not the biggest linebacker you will ever see, but his motor from Point A to Point B certainly makes up for it. Not to mention, he has a quick trigger as far as his speed when the ball gets snapped. KJ shows off solid great vision getting to the ball between the tackles. This kid certainly has scholarship-level football in his future and the added stregnth I am sure he’s putting in the weight room this offseason will set him up for a splendid senior season for the Patriots. KJ was a significant mover in our 2023 rankings, up nearly 15 spots to #68 in a loaded class of linebackers.
Eli Fogel Eli Fogel ATH Gregory | 2023 State | Athlete | Gregory (SD) | 2023
The last time we rated Eli, we had him as more of specialist prospect, in which we are happy to see he has even better skillsets outside of that position, that caused him to jump up our 2023 rankings. Eli has a vast reaching ability especially when the football ends up coming his way. He shows off very prompt speed off the snap which even if he has a blocker in his way he has already came up with the speed to barrel into the backfield and make a play. I am a big fan of his attack level position he makes when driving leverage into his blocker, as he attacks low enough to cause a ruckus with not just that speed I mentioned, but his physical hands too. I think he’s most impressive as a standup outside linebacker coming off the edge as you can see his physicality really come out from that spot even more than it shows on the line. I think this kid could be a small school gem for a Dakotas college football program here locally as he points into his senior season. Eli take a 50+ spot jump to just inside our top 100 prospects in the Dakotas.
Tyree Shorter Tyree Shorter 5'10" | 170 lbs | DB Sioux Falls Lincoln | 2023 State | Defensive Back | Sioux Falls Lincoln (SD) | 2023
I have told you this Class of 2023 from the Sioux Falls Lincoln Patriots is really special defensively, right? You can add defensive back Tyree Shorter Tyree Shorter 5'10" | 170 lbs | DB Sioux Falls Lincoln | 2023 State to that list too. I love this young man’s footwork when moving in reverse. Tyree certainly has a ton of versality as he can line up as a deep safety but with that pinch of speed he has, he can rev up his motor to get into the next level of the field quick to help out his loaded linebacking core. Tyree does a solid job in pass coverage as well, as he is a straight up battler even with the bigger wider receivers the Sioux Falls Area progresses. He has elusive feet when progressing forward and is poised for an excellent senior year for the Patriots and will have some college football opportunities when it all said and done. I certainly want to more of that vertical too in season 4 from Tyree. Up 30 spots into our top 85 prospects in the Dakotas and has a high ceiling.

Griffen Schnider Griffen Schnider 6'0" | 235 lbs | OL Tea Area | 2023 State | Offensive Line | Tea Area (SD) | 2023
Griffin’s pull blocking ability really sets a substantial tone for the Tea Titans rushing attack in my opinion. I talked about revved up motors before, and when this kid gets momentum on the pull, it’s all downhill from here for the opposing blocker. The biggest development I can see in Schnider’s game is his push he can get in 1on1 blocks can grow some bigger strength this offseason as an undersized guard (6’0 235). I will say, despite my dislike of slow-motion tape I do like how on his film it really keys into how developed he can be on his blocks, whether if it’s a play I would grade a 10 or a 5 specifically. I am excited to see how this young man can grow in his senior season, as Griffin checks in up 16 spots to 120.
Reed Rus Reed Rus 6'4" | 195 lbs | LB Mount Vernon-Plankition | 2023 State | Linebacker | Mount Vernon-Plankinton (SD) | 2023
Reed’s reactive vision once he identifies the football from the linebacker position is fun to watch when he goes in pursuit. He does a solid job of zoning in on the outside of the field as his length at 6’4 adds some extension he’s able to get that shorter linebackers might not be able to get when reaching for a ball carrier. Reed has improved from last season on his shedding off positioning to get off his blocks better for sure. He’s also added more athleticism on his pull off All in all, when you look at this kid’s film on both sides of the ball, he shows a ton of durability in his lower body which will help him in the long run. Reed plays with a lot of grit, not always flashy but you can tell he’s going to work his tail off for the MVP Titans on every play he’s line up. Reed has a lot of upside to play at the next level in my eyes. Up 13 spots from 77 into our top 65 in the Dakotas.
Coming up next, we will take a look at the final countdown of prospects that we graded as Stockrisers from our February update of our 2023 rankings.
