Turf Wars: OC Elite Offensive Standouts
In this article:
On Sunday I covered a 7-on-7 event called Turf Wars at JSerra High in San Juan Capistrano. The event featured some of the top 7-on-7 teams in the state. I did not get a chance to take a close look at every team at the event, but I did see some excellent players, some up and coming stars and hundreds of spirited student-athletes competing at a high level.
OC Elite had multiple teams competing at the event of all age levels. The two varsity level teams were “OC Elite Sky Blue” and “OC Elite 5 Star”. Both teams are loaded with some of the top skill players in Orange County and some up and coming players who will be making a name for themselves this fall.
Here are some of the top offensive players I noticed from each OC Elite team on Sunday.
BLUE SKY
Spencer Shannon Spencer Shannon 6'7" | 240 lbs | TE Mater Dei | 2023 State CA , 2023, Mater Dei
Shannon is the first player that you notice when you watch these teams warm up because of his size and athleticism. He is 6-foot-7, 240 pounds and has very good speed for a tight end. He is a matchup nightmare for a lot of teams because he is too fast for linebackers to cover and too big for safeties to cover. He made some big catches on deep balls over the middle and was always a solid redzone target. He got offers from Liberty and Louisville the day after the event. He is already a national recruit and will likely have an expanded role in the Mater Dei offense this season.

Michael “Butter” Tollefson, 2025, San Juan Hills
Tollefson was the best freshman quarterback in Orange County last season and had 14 touchdowns with just 3 interceptions for San Juan Hills. He has good size at 6-foot-2 and is already more muscular than other quarterbacks in his class. He has good velocity on his throws, particularly on intermediate routes and has a nice touch on the deep balls. He makes good decisions with the ball and knows when to take risks. Tollefson already has offers from San Jose State, Nevada and Arizona. He will have offers from every major program in the country before his senior year.
Tonight, San Juan Hills turns the starting QB position over to freshman Michael “Butter” Tollefson.
In limited action over 3 games, @m_tollefson2025 completed 8 of 18 for 75 yards, 2 TDs.

Jordan Onovughe, 2023, Mater Dei
He was buried behind elite Power 5 level receivers on the depth chart for Mater Dei last season, but he was one of the better receivers I saw at the entire event on Sunday. He is 6-foot-2 and built around 200 pounds. He can beat guys with his first two steps in man coverage and runs precise routes. He is sure-handed and it’s a guaranteed 10 yards when he runs dig routes. He seemed coachable and took the coaches advice with adapted to it quickly. His size makes him an intriguing prospect and he could be a late steal for a college program next year.

Mason York, 2024, Edison
York is a big body receiver who can win jump balls against just about anyone. He has good timing with the quarterbacks and seems like a reliable target. He looks bigger than he did when I saw Edison in the fall and he stands out when you watch the offense. He should have an expanded role in Edison’s offense with the departing players and could be a college prospect if he keeps working with the Edison and OC Elite staff.

Edward Schultz Edward Schultz 6'1" | 195 lbs | WR Mission Viejo | 2023 State CA , 2023, JSerra
Schultz is already a Power 5 prospect and he is another guy who stands out when watching OC Elite. He visited Oregon State and Oregon over the weekend and picked up an offer from North Texas on Monday. He uses his physicality to box out receivers like a basketball players and was one of the faster players on the field all day.
Thank you @oregonfootball for the hospitality this past weekend. Really enjoyed the visit and I’m looking forward to coming back!!! #ScoDucks @KennyDillingham @junioradams13 @CoachDanLanning @CoachDonJ pic.twitter.com/aU93Mjy61P

5 STAR
Trey Kukuk Trey Kukuk 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Capistrano Valley | 2023 State CA , 2023, Capistrano Valley
Kukuk had the best arm of the quarterbacks on this team and is the most experienced. He threw for 3327 yards and 33 touchdowns for the Cougars last season and ran for 830 with 11 touchdowns. He throws very hard and sometimes needs to take a little zip off the ball on shorter routes, but he is getting better at that. He doesn’t get to show off his athleticism in 7-on-7 but he still has the arm to impress scouts. He is one of the vocal leaders of the team as well and cheers on the other quarterbacks when he isn’t in the game.

Capistrano Valley QB Trey Kukuk had a memorable night Friday for a lot of reasons, including this game-winning TD pass to Dane Benedix in the final seconds.

Josiah Lamarque Josiah Lamarque 5'10" | 175 lbs | ATH Newport Harbor | 2024 State CA , 2024, Newport Harbor
Lamarque was the best receiver on the field in most of the games this team played in on Sunday. He has a huge catch radius and can reach full extension to make tough catches. He has good speed but his precise route running is what creates separation from defensive backs in man coverage. Lamarque has been a star at Newport Harbor since his freshman season and he also is a leader of the team that all the guys root for. He is undersized but will definitely have some offers after a good junior season.
And just like that, @NHTarsFootball is back in it.@Aj_GMoore finds @JosiahLamarque for a 48-yard touchdown. PAT is good.

Blake Allen, 2023, San Clemente
Allen plays both ways for San Clemente and is primarily a running back. He played some slot receiver on Sunday and showed an ability to make catches in traffic and get open on drag routes in man coverage. He is a physical player who can use his body to make tough catches. He plays with a lot of passion and treats every game like it’s a high-stakes championship game. When the pads come on, his field vision really shines and so does his ability to break tackles.
End 1Q: Corona Del Mar 7, San Clemente 0.

Brayden Bockler, 2023, San Juan Hills
Bockler is a big tight end at 6-foot-4, 230 pounds who catches your eye when you watch OC Elite 5 Star play. He isn’t the fastest guy on the field but can use his body to shield defenders from deflections and make plays in traffic. With San Juan Hills losing its three top receivers, Bockler will definitely have a bigger role this season. He has no offers yet but San Diego State has shown some interest.
Kaleb Annett, 2024, Corona del Mar
Annett got some key reps at quarterback in the semifinal game and led a scoring drive. He is very accurate and can fit the ball into tight windows. He has decent velocity on his throws and has a nice smooth release. Sometimes he can be a little late with the ball, but he always makes the right decision. He was very polished for how little varsity playing time he has gotten. He will likely back up David Rasor David Rasor 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB Corona Del Mar | 2023 State CA again this coming season, but after another year in the weight room and getting more reps with OC Elite, he could have a huge senior season.
Had an incredible time at the @TexasTechFB camp today. Blessed to have been able to learn from many great coaches and receive the gunslinger award. #WreckEm @SonnyCumbie_TTU @TTUCoachWells @themorris23 pic.twitter.com/MDJOrJH2uP
