Keep moving across the offensive position groups, on to the most underrated offensive position group, other than linemen, in my opinion. The TE position can be one of the biggest wildcards in the game of football. When you have a kid who has a big frame, decent speed and a nice set of hands and can be used in multiple ways in a scheme, TE might be a position for them. They are usually a QB’s best friend, because they block well and will usually be a reliable target who will make big catches in key situations. Here are the ones looking for a commitment in the next couple weeks. [player_tooltip player_id="271514" first="Alec" last="Voegele"]- Aberdeen Central Voegele fits this description very well. When a play broke down for Central, he always seemed to get open and gave the QB a nice target and created a big play out of near disaster. He had a great frame, speed and hands of a dangerous high school TE and he used all of that to his advantage. He blocked well for both the run and pass game then can release and run good routes to get himself open. After he caught the ball he ran with speed and power, either running past or through defenders for the big play. He also has very good vision to find open field to extend plays as well. Senior Season [player_tooltip player_id="56461" first="Jaden" last="Witte"]- Sioux Falls Christian Witte seemed to be the favorite target in their running formations to strike big plays when they needed them. He released off the snap well and ran routes to find open space in the defense and positioned himself well to shield the passes from defenders when he would go up for them. He had good speed to be a vertical threat, but also cover a lot of ground on his crossing routes and knew when to break off his route to get open for the best possible play. He also used his big frame and strength to run through defenders when it came down to plays in the red zone. Senior Season [player_tooltip player_id="271161" first="Tyler" last="Johnson"]- Minot Johnson was one of those extra lineman/receivers on the field. He had a lot of speed to be split out wide and run routes on the outside, but also had the power and technique to be a run blocker as well. He could sell his block to get the defenses attention away from him, then released and was wide open to create a big play. He had the awareness of the sticks and down and distance to run his route according to the situation to get the first down. He had the run blocking drive off the ball to create the run gaps for his backs. He was able to open himself up with very technically ran routes. Senior Season [player_tooltip player_id="93084" first="Talon" last="Trogstad"]- Lemmon-McIntosh Trogstad was the nightmare that is TE in 9-man football. He was the kid that had big enough size but just as much speed to be very hard to contain for most teams. Split out wide or in tight, he was quick off the ball and got himself open in a hurry and gave a nice target for his QB. He snuck behind the defense many times and created big plays when they slept on his speed and he usually came down with the catch, whether his needed one or two hands. He was the playmaker for the offense, being used in rushing and passing plays, as well as special teams, but his frame makes him a TE. He was not easy to bring down, he was a very physical runner after catching the ball. Senior Season
