As we launch into the new year and with the first signing day now in the past, it's a good time to look at some of the under-the-radar senior prospects from New York. There are many senior sleepers year in and year out, so it's essential to bring awareness to players that can compete at the next level on all divisions.
[player_tooltip player_id="227726" first="Nicholas" last="Cirulli"] - Port Jervis - OL Twitter Film
The athletic offensive lineman has good upside with his 6'3 frame. He quickly works up to the second level with a quick get-off, and he matches up well against faster edge players in pass pro. Cirulli was a force at DT and can dunk a basketball proving his athleticism. With continued physical growth, I expect Cirulli to have a promising college career wherever he ends up.
[player_tooltip player_id="228736" first="Vaughn" last="Kyer"] - Capital Prep Harlem - OL Twitter Film
Kyer has a massive frame at 6'4 295 lbs. He is an intriguing prospect with a high ceiling as he displays a good motor and nasty streak. Kyer will need to keep improving on technique and flexibility, showing that he can be a knee bender. However, as he improves, I feel he could be a steal for any program.
[player_tooltip player_id="228699" first="Jahsiah" last="Narcisse"] - Erasmus Hall - LB Twitter Film
The first time I saw Narcisse on film, I had to keep rewatching repeatedly. He flashed on a star-studded defense! [player_tooltip player_id="228699" first="Jahsiah" last="Narcisse"] is an every-down and every level LB. One of the better cover LBs in the state as he is sticky against fast WRs. He closes open doors fast against the run with his ability to fill and fold. Jahsiah plays fast and violent with the capability to bend and rush the QB when needed. Probably the most impressive aspect of his game is his ability to run with fast WRs stride for stride for 30 plus yards literally.
[player_tooltip player_id="251105" first="DeAndre" last="Blagrove"] - Malverne - RB/LB/DE - Twitter Film
At 6'4 245 lbs, Blagrove is a physical specimen prospect. He could easily add value at RB or on the defense at the next level. He displays a surprising cutting ability that compliments his bruising power as a runner. [player_tooltip player_id="251105" first="DeAndre" last="Blagrove"] also displays good hands and is a multi-sport stud reinforcing his athletic ability and versatility. On defense, he is fast and physical, bringing pop on contact. If truly devoted to defense with more work on technique, he would probably be one of the better edge prospects in the class because of athletic ability and football IQ. He is a high ceiling player who would bring significant value to any program.
[player_tooltip player_id="230963" first="Quran" last="Watkins"] - Valley Stream Central - QB - Twitter Film
The 6'3 Watkins has all the physical tools needed to compete at the next level. He does an excellent job of keeping defenses off balance with his running ability, as he had 564 rushing yards this past season on the ground. When he gets his feet set, Watkins displays good velocity on a diverse set of ranges. In addition, Watkins can add value anywhere he lands with a big frame and legit dual-threat ability.
[player_tooltip player_id="251870" first="Kevin" last="Dolan"] - Ward Melville - DL - Twitter Film
Dolan is a true athletic edge player at 6'5. He has a high football IQ and can even throw for a touchdown. He shows he can stand up or put his hand on the ground on film. He does an excellent job of keeping his outside shoulder free and not getting reached, allowing him to live in the backfield. If he can prove that he can drop into coverage, Dolan can fit into any defense as an OLB or DE.
[player_tooltip player_id="250972" first="Amari" last="Cook"] - Bellport - DL - Twitter Film
Cook is an active DL with a high motor. He has a good burst off the line and displays power from the bottom up, showing his knockback power on bigger OL. [player_tooltip player_id="250972" first="Amari" last="Cook"] looked flashed against a top Garden City team. He is athletic enough to show his change of direction ability with good angles when he is in the backfield. He is versatile enough on the defensive line to be disruptive at a 3 tech and could probably play 4i in any TITE or MINT front variations.
[player_tooltip player_id="230880" first="Cooper" last="Parkinson"] - East Islip - LB - Twitter Film
Parkinson was a kid I was able to see in person multiple games this year. He made the play of the game against Sayville in the playoffs with his 95-yard fumble recovery touchdown showing his big-play ability and speed. He lined up usually on edge for East Islip as a DE/OLB hybrid. But Parkinson is athletic enough to make a permanent home as OLB. Before transferring to East Islip for his senior season, [player_tooltip player_id="230880" first="Cooper" last="Parkinson"] was a Texas 6A all-district player.
[player_tooltip player_id="230884" first="Antonio" last="Padilla"] - Valley Stream Central - LB - Twitter Film
[player_tooltip player_id="230884" first="Antonio" last="Padilla"] is a natural LB who displays good instincts in run-or-pass situations. Against the run, he tracks well as he doesn't overpursue, and when the door opens, he fills fast. He also flashed on film against a top Garden City team. Padilla is a sideline to sideline LB, and if he continues to get bigger and stronger, he can be a dangerous LB wherever he lands.
[player_tooltip player_id="225776" first="Tafari" last="Johnson"] - Cardinal Hayes - LB - Twitter Film
At 6’2 [player_tooltip player_id="225776" first="Tafari" last="Johnson"] has a good range for an OLB or any label for an overhang type of player. He is comfortable out of the box and can line up on an island against WRs. Against some of the state's best, he displayed excellent coverage. He does a good job of using his hands when shedding blocks allowing him to string out running plays. Johnson is a do it all LB that you never have to take off the field; his value is his versatility and playmaking ability from any spot.
[player_tooltip player_id="228686" first="Bryce" last="Robinson"] - St. John the Baptist - WR - Twitter Film
At 6’5 200 plus with speed on tap, it is tough to label [player_tooltip player_id="228686" first="Bryce" last="Robinson"] as a sleeper. The reality is that if he were in the Southeast, Texas, or California, much more eyes would be on him. Robinson is not your typical jump ball tall WR; he displays tight cuts for his size and has fluid enough hips, as you can see when he plays off at DB. Bryce can make the necessary adjustments in the air showing his body control that other taller players often lack. He also is a physical blocker showing his willingness to do all the small things.
[player_tooltip player_id="251139" first="Cadeem" last="Ramsay"] - Baldwin - DE/OLB - Twitter Film
Ramsay has great length with his 6'4 plus frame. He consistently showed that he could play out of the box in space. [player_tooltip player_id="251139" first="Cadeem" last="Ramsay"] is high effort versatile player being able to come off the edge or lineup against slot WRs. Ramsay displayed his pass rush ability in the Nassau County Senior Bowl, where he had multiple sacks and TFLs with his hand on the ground. He will need continued improvement on leveraging his length with bend and hand fighting consistency, but he has a high ceiling as a prospect.
[player_tooltip player_id="230371" first="Havis" last="Wade"] - New Utrecht - LB - Twitter Film
Wade is a highly versatile LB that makes plays at LB, S, TE, and WR. He brings real value because of his versatility at a high level. I think his home is at OLB, but he is such an athlete that I wouldn't be shocked to see him anywhere. At 6'2-6'3, he has good range and closes space fast, bringing pop when he makes contact. He is relentless in making a play, and he is the type of player that coaches love. His frame will even allow him to add more good size, and I think he could be exceptional.
[player_tooltip player_id="232703" first="Zachary" last="Mitchell"] - Cardinal Hayes - RB - Twitter Film
At 6'0 215 lbs, Mitchell is a powerful runner who always seems to fall forward. He shows good vision and patience on film, allowing blocks to develop. Mitchell is a workhorse but shows good quickness with his jump-cut ability. Once he gets going, he is a load to bring down but his sneaky speed mixed with his vision makes him attractive as an RB prospect.
[player_tooltip player_id="261250" first="Ryan" last="Brady"] - Commack - FB - Twitter Film
Brady is a highly versatile FB that can do it all. He has an impressive burst and always keeps a good pad level when attacking LBs or DEs. [player_tooltip player_id= "261250" first= "Ryan" last= "Brady"] can easily play the traditional FB role if needed but what makes him highly valuable is his running ability as he attacks the holes getting upfield fast. He has loose hips and can make a quick cut putting smaller defenders in a pickle with making a business decision. Brady can also run routes and shows impressive hands allowing him to offer prime versatility.
[player_tooltip player_id="263453" first="Max" last="Barone"] - Shoreham-Wading River - ATH - Twitter Film
Barone is a do-it-all athlete who makes plays in the backfield, lined up in the slot, and the secondary is a weapon in the return game. As a runner, he shows quick feet with good jump cuts and balances when contact is made. When lined up in the slot, he is a jet sweep threat along with good route running ability, and he does attack the ball showing good hands. [player_tooltip player_id= "263453" first= "Max" last= "Barone"] is a high IQ player that you can line up all over the place as he is just a football player.
[player_tooltip player_id="256820" first="James" last="Cahill"] - Cicero-North Syracuse - LB - Twitter Film
At 6'2, Cahill has good range, and he displays the ability to play inside or outside at LB. [player_tooltip player_id=" 256820" first=" James" last=" Cahill"] is an effective run, Blitzer, playing downhill fast and bringing pop while keeping his leg drive. He is quick with his run, reads tracks well, and commits to the play. I expect Cahill will only add good weight and strength, making him a high ceiling LB prospect.
[player_tooltip player_id="261478" first="Ethan" last="Haust"] - Baldwinsville - OL - Twitter Film
Haust is a wide-based athletic OG who is an effective puller. He is quick off the ball, allowing him to get underneath DL with his hips and hands, and opposing players cant roll off his block once he's on them. He quickly gets to the second level, surprising LBs with his quickness. When Haust pulls, he's consistently balanced and controlled, allowing him to leverage his angle. As he gets bigger, he will be a force on the interior line wherever he lands.
[player_tooltip player_id="228681" first="Dominic" last="Meo"] - West Babylon - DB - Twitter Film
Meo is an intelligent physical DB that displays good awareness in coverage, allowing him to make plays all over the field. He is tough against the run and can be inserted for run fits as a capable sure tackler. [player_tooltip player_id= "228681" first= "Dominic" last= "Meo"] is a player that will give you every ounce of effort while still being athletic enough to make splash plays. Meo will need to continue work on his footwork to allow him to stick to faster WRs for the next level, but I don't doubt that he will continue the process of improving.
[player_tooltip player_id="261477" first="Dan" last="Ewald"] - Baldwinsville - LB - Twitter Film
Ewald is a true inside backer in every way possible. He reads the triangle well, allowing him to make many plays behind the line of scrimmage. Ewald had 25 TFLs in his senior season, and when you turn on the film, you see how he has a nose for the ball. He does a good job tracking the near hip and not overpursuing when scraping. Besides being an excellent run stopper [player_tooltip player_id= "261477" first= "Dan" last= "Ewald"] gets to his drop fast and is athletic enough to make plays in the passing game. He is comfortable in space and has good depth awareness. With his ability and 6'0 230 lbs frame, Ewald would instantly make any program better.
[player_tooltip player_id="236980" first="William" last="Miller"] - Erasmus Hall - DE/OLB - Twitter Film
Miller is yet another prospect on a loaded defense. He is an athletic edge player that probably projects better at OLB at the next level as he doesn't have the ideal size of a genuine hand on the ground edge player but do not let that fool you. Miller has a great burst off the line and is crafty with technique as he displays good leverage with attacking the near shoulder and keeping extension vs. bigger OL. When pass rushing Miller has multiple moves with hip flip and hand fight ability followed by the bendability to get home. Miller is a true tweener and can be an asset as OLB or DE depending on the scheme.
[player_tooltip player_id="261515" first="Jalen" last="Gordon"] - Canarsie - ATH - Twitter Film
Two things are probably true every time [player_tooltip player_id= "261515" first= "Jalen" last= "Gordon"] steps on the field; he is most likely the smallest person on the field, and he is also probably the most dynamic player on the field. He is a true X-Factor player that needs the ball in his hands. He gets lost behind his OL when he lines up in the backfield, but he pops a big run out of nowhere, displaying his vision and hyper-quick feet. When he lines up at WR, he quickly gets separation because of his sudden break and go ability and is a YAC magnet. Gordon flashed and was dynamic against some of New Yorks's best defensive players. Flat out Gordon is a player and deserves an opportunity somewhere.
[player_tooltip player_id="232712" first="Johnnie" last="Booker"] - Bellport - OL - Twitter Film
The big-framed 6'4 Booker is a mauler on the interior line. He is down to 295, which will only help his athleticism and balance dealing with quicker DL at the next level. Booker gets off the ball well for his size, and when he gets his hands on, he has dominant power. He will need to continue developing technique and flexibility with hip rolling and consistent knee bender. Still, he is already proving he is committed to the process of improvement, and I expect him to be successful wherever he lands.
[player_tooltip player_id="254704" first="Daniel" last="Aladgham"] - Lafayette - QB - Twitter Film
Real under-the-radar QB prospect who is currently 5'10 185 lbs. Aladgham takes snaps under center and shows good footwork with his drops, displaying a good weight shift from the ground up. He goes through progressions and shows the ability to look off safety help. When his base is set and commits, he has good velocity. Throwing with touch doesn't seem to be an issue with Aladgham. The ability to be under center and deliver is a plus that favors [player_tooltip player_id= "254704" first= "Daniel" last= "Aladgham"] and could be a gem for a program down the line.
[player_tooltip player_id="263356" first="Randy" last="Peters"] - Lincoln - ATH - Twitter Film
Peters is a dynamic athlete that played for Lincoln in Brooklyn. He is a legit threat at multiple positions and is another player that needs the ball in his hands. When lined up at WR, he has enough speed to go over the top and has the stop and go ability to change directions on a dime. I love how Peters is aggressive off the line and drives quickly out the gate. He is dangerous on jet sweeps and gets to green rapidly because of his field awareness and vision. [player_tooltip player_id= "263356" first= "Randy" last= "Peters"] also shows playmaking ability in the backfield at RB and on defense; he is comfortable playing off at DB and displays the burst to come up and make big tackles.
