We always strive to make these rankings as thorough and comprehensive as possible here at Prep Redzone and our last rankings update, before the start of the 2021 high school season, featured several hundred prospects in the Class of 2023. But in the months since those were released we have seen several intriguing prospects emerge.
Here is a look at some prospects who are making their debuts in the rankings with the latest update:
DL Adepoju Adebawore Adepoju Adebawore 6'4" | 220 lbs | DL North Kansas City | 2023 State MO North Kansas City
Adebawore, a lean 6-foot-4, 220-pound defensive end, makes his debut in the Missouri Class of 2023 rankings at No. 13 overall and the fifth-ranked defensive lineman.
He had a breakthrough campaign with 51.5 tackles, 19 tackles for loss and 10 sacks in 11 games as part of a talented North Kansas City defense that included Iowa State signee Domonique Orange Domonique Orange 6'3" | 295 lbs | DL North Kansas City | 2022 State MO and top 2023 defensive tackle prospect Edric Hill Edric Hill 6'3" | 270 lbs | DL North Kansas City | 2023 State MO .
Adebawore, who has the frame to add significant weight and strength, has received scholarship offers from Iowa State, Minnesota, Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State and Arkansas and should be a hot prospect this offseason.
DB Elijah Thomas Elijah Thomas 6'2" | 190 lbs | DB De Smet | 2023 State MO De Smet
A 6-2, 190-pounder, Thomas is a prospect who could end up playing defensive back (free safety) or linebacker (or possibly even wide receiver) at the next level as he adds weight and strength. Thomas stands out with his remarkable speed, which could make him a hot prospect this offseason if he performs as well as expected at camps.
Thomas, who enters the 2023 rankings at No. 21 overall, recorded 53 tackles, three sacks, three fumble recoveries and one interception during his junior campaign after recording just three tackles as a sophomore. He also scored a touchdown, returning a fumble against CBC 95 yards for a score in the teams’ playoff matchup.
Thomas received his first scholarship offer from Arkansas in late November.
RB Deion Brown Deion Brown 5'8" | 170 lbs | RB Kirkwood | 2023 State MO Kirkwood
Brown, an explosive 5-8, 170-pounder, was one of the breakout performers in the Show-Me State this fall before his season ended early with an injury. He enters the 2023 rankings at No. 25 overall and the fourth-best running back.
In seven games this fall, Brown rushed for 1,081 yards and scored 14 total touchdowns. He rushed for 171 yards or more in five of his first six games – and rushed for at least 144 yards in each of those six games — before suffering an injury in his seventh game.
Brown has received early scholarship offers from Colorado, North Texas and Toledo.
WR Kael Combs Kael Combs 6'4" | 190 lbs | WR Nixa | 2023 State MO Nixa
A 6-4, 190-pounder, Combs came out for the football team for the first time and made an immediate impact as he established himself as one of the top wide receivers in Missouri.
Combs enters the 2023 rankings at No. 26 overall after snagging 44 receptions for 842 yards and 11 touchdowns and earning first-team all-state honors.
Also a basketball player, Combs has received early scholarship offers from Southern Miss and Missouri State.
ATH Donovan McIntosh Donovan McIntosh 6'3" | 170 lbs | DB St. Mary's | 2023 State MO St. Mary’s
McIntosh, a 6-3, 175-pounder, enters the rankings at No. 27 overall — and the No. 1 athlete — after showing his potential as a wide receiver and cornerback for the state champion Dragons.
McIntosh produced modest numbers on a loaded St. Mary’s team this fall. He was credited with 13 tackles and one INT and four catches for 124 yards and two touchdowns in just seven games. He averaged 31.0 yards per catch. He scored twice in the state championship game – on a long reception and an interception return.
McIntosh has received early offers from Kansas and Arkansas.
QB Gerard Grewe Gerard Grewe 6'3" | 210 lbs | QB Priory | 2023 State MO Priory
Grewe, a 6-3 (or 6-4), 210-pounder, enters the rankings at No. 39 overall and as the No. 2 quarterback prospect after his first year as a starter in which he showed his ability as a dual-threat quarterback with legitimate Division I size for the position.
Grewe completed 64 percent of passes for 2,339 yards, with 29 touchdowns against seven interceptions, and also ran for 1,339 yards and 18 touchdowns. He averaged 7.2 yards per carry.
Unlike the other prospects on this list, Grewe does not yet have any scholarship offers. But we like his potential to emerge as a Division I or Division II prospect after being seen at camps this offseason.
