Continue ReadingRecruiting is starting to heat up for 2023’s and 2024’s, as the class of 2022 uncommitted list starts to shrink. College coaches are using their free time to extend offers and have conversations. As we start to inch closer to putting a cap on the 2022 class next month, recruiting deserves a lot of attention at the moment.
Here’s some recruiting news and updates as we begin 2022:
Jacob Oden Jacob Oden 6'0" | 185 lbs | DB Harper Woods | 2024 State MI – DB – Harper Woods
The Harper Woods defensive back will be in Ann Arbor this weekend for an unofficial visit with the Wolverines. Oden impressed at the SMSB camp, especially in the 7 on 7 session, showing some elite speed and cover ability. He currently has 21 offers to his name, including schools like Michigan, Michigan State, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, and Cincinnati.
Lynn Wyche-El Lynn Wyche-El 5'9" | 165 lbs | WR Detroit King | 2022 State MI – WR – Detroit Martin Luther King
A name to watch late in the recruiting process is the speedy Detroit King wideout. While he has some big time offers, he’s fallen a bit lower on the radar than expected after a great 2021 season. Wyche-El holds offers from Syracuse, Kentucky, and Washington at the moment, with six offers in total. Whoever ends up with the wideout is getting a dynamic weapon who can score from any part of the field.
Isaiah Marshall Isaiah Marshall 6'0" | 210 lbs | QB Southfield A&T | 2024 State MI – QB – Southfield
The Southfield field general picked up an offer from Louisville on Monday, adding to his list of 12 offers. Marshall is a dual threat QB who can launch the ball on the run and has a lot of positive traits as a young player. His shiftiness when he runs can be used effectively and Southfield’s coaching staff does a great job of setting up running plays for him to capitalize on. As he inches closer to his Junior season, Marshall is a name to watch in the recruiting cycle.
Darius Taylor Darius Taylor 5'8" | 150 lbs | RB Walled Lake Western | 2023 State MI – RB- Walled Lake Western
The talented running back picked up an offer from Vanderbilt this past weekend. The all-state running back provides the complete package out of the backfield. He has quick cuts and great vision at the second level. The contact balance Taylor shows on film is top tier and it’s not hard to see why SEC schools are now in the mix. Taylor’s burst through the line of scrimmage is lethal for a defense, as they often get caught flat footed. The elusive running back has 12 offers currently, with more schools sure to be in the mix soon.
Mason Muragin Mason Muragin 6'4" | 245 lbs | DL De La Salle | 2023 State MI – DE – De La Salle
A big name to watch regarding the 2023 class is the De La Salle pass rusher. Muragin was offered by Central Michigan on Jan. 7th, his fifth offer. The CMU offer follows a streak of MAC offers from schools like Toledo, Western Michigan, and Miami (Ohio). With a big frame and a relentless motor, Muragin proved to be too tough to contain for offensive lineman, especially in the playoffs.
National Combine
The All American game this past weekend certainly offered a lot of buzz regarding seniors committing, but there was also a chance to look at the future of high school football at the National Combine, including some of Michigan’s next up. Quarterbacks Dante Moore Dante Moore 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Detroit King | 2023 State MI and CJ Carr CJ Carr 6'2" | 175 lbs | QB Saline | 2024 State MI looked sharp and decisive with their throws, even making some tough throws look effortless. Carr, a class of 2024 recruit, has 10 offers, most notably from Michigan, Michigan State, and Notre Dame. The recent state champion Moore currently has 30 offers, with Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, and Notre Dame as potential early favorites.
