With nearly 50 new additions to the Prep Redzone 2023 rankings, we want to get familiar with the new names and faces on the list. Here’s a look at the newly-ranked players at offensive skill positions, the first of three articles detailing the 46 players who are new to the rankings.
[player_tooltip player_id="146374" first="Marcus" last="Adams"], TE, James Island - Adams is, simply, a 6-5, 225 pound matchup nightmare. The Trojans use him in a ton of ways: in the slot in space, in an H-back role for a big body at the point of attack, and with a hand in the dirt as a traditional TE. He caught 20 balls for 366 yards and two scores last year.
[player_tooltip player_id="262681" first="BJ" last="Atkins"], WR, Christ Church - Atkins was THE guy for the Cavaliers in the passing game. His 702 receiving yards doubled the next-closest total, and he hauled in seven touchdowns on the year.
[player_tooltip player_id="262636" first="Kyai" last="Cook"], WR, Byrnes - Cook turned into a significant threat for Byrnes as the season evolved last year, pulling in 24 catches for 550 yards and seven scores. He’s dangerous in the return game as well.
[player_tooltip player_id="262689" first="Michael" last="Dennison"], TE, Beaufort - The 6-6, 220-pound Dennison looks like a quarterback’s dream. He’s got a knack for being a soft-spot, safety-valve guy, reliably hauling in tough catches in tight traffic. And, his size allows him to be a jump-ball target and an effective blocker in the run game.
[player_tooltip player_id="262635" first="Alias" last="Graham-Woodberry"], RB, Gilbert - Graham-Woodberry rushed for 1,618 yards and 16 touchdowns for the Indians. He’s got breakaway speed, and does a good job of bouncing off of first contact.
[player_tooltip player_id="262619" first="Tyler" last="Jones"], RB, Catawba Ridge - Jones provided the power for the Copperheads’ rushing attack as a junior. He rushed for 1,081 yards and six touchdowns, averaging more than five yards per carry.
[player_tooltip player_id="262574" first="Bennett" last="Judy"], QB, Hillcrest - Judy exploded onto the scene for the Rams, and into the rankings. He threw for 3,140 yards and 35 touchdowns for Hillcrest, adding 415 yards and 12 more scores on the ground.
[player_tooltip player_id="262703" first="Marcus" last="Kelly"], RB, Ridge View - Kelly’s 569 yards were second on the team last season. He averaged more than seven yards per carry and scored twice for Ridge View.
[player_tooltip player_id="262637" first="Chris" last="Lawson"], WR, Ridge View - Lawson had an outstanding junior season for the Blazers, hauling in 40 catches for 673 yards and five touchdowns, all good for second on the team.
[player_tooltip player_id="262613" first="Mack" last="Long"], RB, Byrnes - Long was Byrnes’ second-leading rusher with 295 yards, despite missing all but four games with an injury. The Rebels’ single-game rushing record holder, Long averaged 7 yards per carry.
[player_tooltip player_id="262690" first="TJ" last="McElmurray"], QB, Midland Valley - McElmurray was a bright spot in a tough season for Midland Valley. He threw for 1,309 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Mustangs.
[player_tooltip player_id="262679" first="Taeshaun" last="Sellers"], WR, Hannah-Pamplico - Sellers runs good routes and does a good job of getting open in traffic, but at the end of the day he’s a burner. He excels at both running by defenders and at turning short one-on-one catches into big gains by making people miss.
[player_tooltip player_id="262552" first="Tyler" last="J Smith"], RB, Barnwell - Smith is a monster in the backfield for the Warhorses. He rushed for more than 2,100 yards, with 28 touchdowns, 10 100-yard games, and an average of more than seven yards per carry.
[player_tooltip player_id="262692" first="Cooper" last="Tankersley"], QB, Wade Hampton - Tankersley did a good job of directing the Generals’ offense, throwing for 1,900 yards and 15 touchdowns.
[player_tooltip player_id="262691" first="Matt" last="Warren"], TE, Trinity Collegiate - At 6-6, Warren is a HUGE target. He plays in several spots, including spending a lot of time out wide, where his big frame makes him a go-and-get-it guy. He’s a tough cover in one-on-one situations particularly near the goal line.
[player_tooltip player_id="262618" first="Woods" last="Windham"], QB, Christ Church - Windham does a good job of putting the Cavaliers in the best possible position. Last season, he threw for 1,628 yards and 13 TDs for Christ Church.
[player_tooltip player_id="262551" first="Zion" last="Wright"], WR, Saluda - Wright was the big-play guy for the Tigers last year. He caught 29 balls for 531 yards and three scores, an average of more than 18 yards per catch.
