The final Class 5A district to be featured is District 6, which was home to the likes of Urbandale, Waukee Northwest and Ankeny Centennial.
Here is a look at some of the top standouts on both sides of the ball from this past fall in Class 5A, District 6.
[player_tooltip player_id="104099" first="Peyton" last="Rottinghaus"] - Urbandale - QB - 5-11 - 180
[player_tooltip player_id="104099" first="Peyton" last="Rottinghaus"] put the Urbandale offense on his shoulders this past season, throwing for 2,277 yards with 22 touchdowns and just eight interceptions. In the high-octane attack, Rottinghaus was the straw that stirred the drink.
He does a tremendous job of scanning the field and waiting for his receivers to work free from coverage before delivering an easily-catchable ball. With another offseason of work, Rottinghaus has all the tools to be one of the elite quarterbacks in 2022.
Cole Ritchie - Sioux City East - QB - 6-1 - 170
The Sioux City East offense was based around senior [player_tooltip player_id="23964" first="Luke" last="Longval"]. But when Cole Ritchie got the call under center, they continued to produce.
In the season finale, Ritchie was 25-for-37 for 302 yards and a school-record seven passing touchdowns. The future looks very, very bright for Sioux City East with Ritchie and [player_tooltip player_id="152853" first="Kelynn" last="Jacobsen"] among those set to return.
Ritchie finished the season completing almost 62 percent of his passes for 537 yards and 11 touchdowns against just three interceptions.
[player_tooltip player_id="104750" first="Kai" last="Black"] - Urbandale - WR - 6-4 - 205
[player_tooltip player_id="104099" first="Peyton" last="Rottinghaus"]’ improvements this past fall came in large part to the play of [player_tooltip player_id="104750" first="Kai" last="Black"]. At 6-foot-4 and over 200 pounds, Black is part of that new-age style of receiver who is bigger than most opposing defenders and quick enough to get away from even the speedest of corners.
Black caught 54 passes for 888 yards and 10 touchdowns, posting over 16 yards per reception. He does a great job of looking the ball in, which keeps him from dropping anything within catching distance.
[player_tooltip player_id="105167" first="Zach" last="English"] - Ankeny Centennial - LB - 6-0 - 170
The leading tackler in the district, [player_tooltip player_id="105167" first="Zach" last="English"] of Ankeny Centennial is your typical ball-searching linebacker. With 74 tackles, English was a constant thorn to opposing teams.
Good size and excellent lateral movement, English was also a pest with 8.5 tackles for loss. He reacts very well off the ball and is strong enough to make sure no one is getting away from him when he locks in.
[player_tooltip player_id="247991" first="Tyron" last="Wright"] - Des Moines East - DE/WR - 6-5 - 180
Long, strong and an athletic monster off the edge, [player_tooltip player_id="247991" first="Tyron" last="Wright"] of Des Moines East made quite the impact as a sophomore this past fall.
Wright caused fits for opposing offenses, recording seven sacks and 11 total tackles for loss. He has the frame to get even bigger, and appears to be fully capable of maintaining his excellent speed while doing so.
