Out of all of the OK-Conferences, I don’t think there’s any doubt that the OK-Green is the most prestigious. With Muskegon, Mona Shores, the Zeeland’s, and teams such as Union and Reeths Puffer trending upwards, the OK-Green is going to be exciting for years to come., Here, I’ll go over each team’s biggest shoes to fill as well as a returner who will step up.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Muskegon</strong></span>
<strong>Biggest shoes - QB [player_tooltip player_id="30158" first="Myles" last="Walton"]</strong>
<strong>Best Returner - SB [player_tooltip player_id="253303" first="Destin" last="Piggee"]</strong>
Muskegon had an overall OK year for their standards. They finished the year 9-2 with a divisional loss to Cedar Springs. [player_tooltip player_id="30158" first="Myles" last="Walton"] will be missed, but I’ve been hearing nothing but glowing reviews of upcoming QB [player_tooltip player_id="253304" first="M’khi" last="Guy"]. As for [player_tooltip player_id="253303" first="Destin" last="Piggee"], he’s a versatile athlete that really opens up the playbook. Piggee was just offered by 2021 DII National Champion Ferris State. With Muskegon knowing the Veer offense well, the trio of Piggee, Guy, and [player_tooltip player_id="241282" first="Jake" last="Price"] will be incredibly difficult to stop, especially behind their elite offensive line.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Mona Shores</strong></span>
<strong>Biggest shoes - SS <a class="uni-link--implied" href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/11510732">[player_tooltip player_id="93664" first="Mark" last="Konecny"]</a></strong>
<strong>Best Returner - RB <a class="uni-link--implied" href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/13244273">[player_tooltip player_id="243089" first="Dahmir" last="Farnum"]</a></strong>
Mona Shores is another team that experienced a "down year" as they fell to Caledonia in the divisional round. The powerhouse program loses a great defensive back in Mark Konecncy, but they retain a ton of talent most notably with [player_tooltip player_id="243089" first="Dahmir" last="Farnum"], an incredible RB prospect. He’s fast-twitch and sports amazing speed and vision. He’s strong and can make guys miss in multiple ways. Overall incredibly excited to see Mona Shores take the step forward I think they’re capable of.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Zeeland West</strong></span>
<strong>Biggest shoes - TE <a class="uni-link--implied" href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/15528618">Skye VanderKuyl</a></strong>
<strong>Best Returner - MLB <a class="uni-link--implied" href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/15544743">Skyler Geurink</a></strong>
Zeeland West is a team that can break through over the coming seasons. Skye VanderKuyl was an excellent, unique talent at Tight End, while Skyler Geurink served as one of the best linebackers in the conference last season. The Dux are one of those teams that I desperately want to see in 2022.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Zeeland East </strong></span>
<strong>Biggest shoes - QB/MLB [player_tooltip player_id="162660" first="Tag" last="Bonnema"]</strong>
<strong>Best Returner - RB Mack Koopman</strong>
It wasn’t the season the Chix wanted, and next season will be a true test as well. [player_tooltip player_id="162660" first="Tag" last="Bonnema"] was an amazing athlete on both sides of the ball and will leave some giant shoes to fill. Mack Koopman is an amazing story being an HLH survivor and Bone Marrow transplant recipient, and he’s still damn good on the field. He played JV with some Varsity and looks to take over the starting job in 2022.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Union</strong></span>
<strong>Biggest shoes - RB <a class="uni-link--implied" href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/11277570">Keaunt’e Swarn</a></strong>
<strong>Best Returner - QB Tommy Stevens</strong>
I’ve said it a bunch, but Union is on an incredibly sharp incline and the sky is the limit for this D1 team. Keaunt’e Swarn was incredible as Union’s top back and he will be missed, but Tommy Stevens has the heart of a lion at QB. I see Union making another insane step forward in 2022.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Reeths-Puffer</strong></span>
<strong>Biggest shoes - <a class="uni-link--implied" href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/11708736">[player_tooltip player_id="243222" first="Almarco" last="Fields"]</a></strong>
<strong>Best Returner - <a class="uni-link--implied" href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/13487762">[player_tooltip player_id="253315" first="Brody" last="Johnson"]</a></strong>
This is one of the most intriguing teams in the Grand Rapids area. They have lots of great talent with lots of potential, with newly hired head coach Cody Kater being in the spotlight. Reeths-Puffer last made the postseason back in 2014, and they look to head in a different, hopefully better direction.
