Continue ReadingLiberty Hill edged out a close win over Alamo Heights, 43-40, on Friday. The Panther rushing attack proved once again too much to handle. However, Alamo Heights never gave up and the Mules suffered their first loss of the season. There are plenty of players to be named off this game and these are just a few that stuck out.
1. Andon Thomas (SR-LB) – Liberty Hill High School (Liberty Hill, TX)
Stats: 110 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns, 13 total tackles, 5 tackles for a loss
The Liberty Hill rushing attack was in full force as always but this time Thomas found success doing double duty. Not only was he a big part in the Panther defense but he was a beast on the ground as well on offense. Thomas clearly showed that not only does he have the speed to get into the backfield but also the speed to get out of it. He averaged 10 yards per carry which includes a 33-yard dash.
2. Reese Vickers (JR-QB) – Liberty Hill High School (Liberty Hill, TX)
Stats: 58 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns
Vickers barely threw the ball, as Liberty Hill often does not, but he too showcased his running abilities. In just eight carries, Vickers got two scores. Despite not throwing much, Vickers did showcase how athletic he truly is and how great he can especially work in a mobile quarterback setup.
3. Logan Dyer (JR-RB) – Liberty Hill High School (Liberty Hill, TX)
Stats: 79 rushing yards, 1 rushing touchdown
Dyer had just five carries in the game but he made them count. Not only did he have a 71-yard run but also a touchdown to boot. He averaged 15.8 yards per carry. Dyer truly showcased the depth of Liberty Hill’s rushing attack as well as just how capable he is to tear up the field when necessary.
4. James Sobey (SR-QB) – Alamo Heights High School (San Antonio, TX)
Stats: 275 passing yards, 4 passing touchdowns, 1 rushing touchdown
Despite the loss, Sobey threw as close to a perfect game as one can. He finished the game with a 65.6 completion percentage and a 132.2 quarterback rating. He also threw no interceptions as well. He was accurate and had to throw the ball often with Liberty Hill preventing any kind of run game. Despite this, Sobey helped Alamo Heights keep the game extremely close and that is a testament to how strong-willed Sobey is.
5. Rett Andersen (JR-WR) – Alamo Heights High School (San Antonio, TX)
Stats: 13 receptions, 191 receiving yards, 4 receiving touchdowns
Andersen was pretty much the only target for Sobey all game. The Panther defense just had no answers for him. This is not too surprising as Andersen has popped up on several occasions this season as a player to watch. Andersen has been a stud all year and given he has another year to go, Alamo Heights should be excited to have him return for one more bout. Andersen should definitely be receiving more offers than he already has.
