It was not until the second half that the Cougars put points on the board. Despite the score, both teams fought until the end. Now, Liberty Hill sets its sights on a state title. However, take a look at the top players from this game.
1. Joe Pitchford (SO-QB) – Liberty Hill High School (Liberty Hill, TX)
Stats: 150 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns
Once again Pitchford showcased his rushing abilities. Although he did not throw the ball, this is common given Liberty Hill’s strategy. He truly showcased he is mobile, and a future team leader. Especially in the playoffs, Pitchford has given an elite preview of what is to come the next two years he is with Liberty Hill. However, he is still has another game at the state championship to continue to impress those around the state.
2. Noah Long Noah Long 5'10" | 175 lbs | RB Liberty Hill | 2024 State TX (SO-RB) – Liberty Hill High School (Liberty Hill, TX)
Stats: 97 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns
Long has had an impressive season, and that continues to be the case in the playoffs. He is fast, hard to tackle, and shows great awareness on the field. Long is shaping up to be one of the best running backs in Texas and in an offense that constantly runs the ball. He is in a perfect position for success but the ultimate test of the state championship awaits him.
3. Aaron Brewer (SR-DL/LB) – Liberty Hill High School (Liberty Hill, TX)
Stats: 12 total tackles, 4 solo tackles, 2 fumble recoveries, 1 defensive touchdown
The Liberty Hill defense truly shined on Friday night by completely dominating Crosby. This was a team that is used to scoring a lot of points and the Cougars could just not find a rhythm. Brewer was a big part of the success on defense, especially when jumping on fumbles and of course adding points in the factor. All game long the defense was disruptive and has been a big reason why Liberty Hill has been dominating the competition.
4. Cyrin Myles (JR-QB) – Crosby High School (Crosby, TX)
Stats: 138 passing yards, 1 passing touchdown, 142 rushing yards
Despite the loss, Myles not only shows resilience against a tough opponent but also great rushing skill as well. He kept up with Pitchford in terms of rushing yards, averaging 8.9 yards per carry. The loss may hurt, but the future is bright for Myles and he can certainly take this experience to help lead Crosby to a potential state title next year.
5. Kameren Kirkwood (SR-WR) – Crosby High School (Crosby, TX)
Stats: 35 rushing yards, 1 rushing touchdown, 3 receptions, 55 receiving yards, 1 receiving touchdown
Kirkwood continued to play hard despite how tough Liberty Hill played. Regardless of whether he was rushing and receiving, Kirkwood never stopped playing. Although this was his final season with the Cougars, he certainly made the most of it. Regardless of where Kirkwood goes, he is bringing passion to the game.
