[player_tooltip player_id="147762" first="Jordan" last="Ross"], Pacifica, WR/DB
I realized the talent of Ross when I saw him at the Mission Viejo passing tournament scoring touchdowns against guys from top programs like Long Beach Poly and Servite. His speed is too much for opposing defenses to handle but he also runs good routes with his agility and ability to turn on a dime. He high points the ball and is physical enough to win 50/50 balls against big corners. Pacifica likes to move him around to create mismatches. They love to run bubble screens with him from the slot and he can make everyone miss. Ross has offers from Notre Dame, Fresno State and UNLV.

Drew Shanley, San Clemente, WR/DB
Shanley will see some more time at receiver next year but I like him best as a safety. He flies up the field to make tackles in the short passing game. He excels as a cover 2 safety but can play man-to-man as well. He is one of the better sophomore tacklers in the county and has good instincts when it comes to the ball too. Shanley has a motor too which makes him a fun special teams player and never takes him out of a play. He had two interceptions in San Clemente’s playoff game and has matched up against Division 1 caliber receivers from Murrieta Valley and San Juan Hills.

[player_tooltip player_id="147764" first="Jackson" last="Sievers"], Capistrano Valley, LB
Sievers jumped out to me as a freshman in the spring season and ended up being the top sophomore in tackles in the Southern Section this fall. He is the best run stopping linebacker in his class for the county. He does a good job finding gaps in the opponent’s run blocking scheme and makes tackles for a loss. He is already bigger than a lot of seniors at his position and has sideline-to-sideline speed. The system they play in is designed for him to put up numbers, but he would be effective in any scheme. Sievers has a chance to put up 400 tackles in his career at Capo.

Treyvon Tolmaire, Mission Viejo, DB
Tolmaire is already one of the best ball hawk defensive backs in the Southern Section as a sophomore. I saw him have a pick six, force a fumble and recover that fumble all in the first quarter against Leuzinger. The next week I saw him have another interception against an elite team in Sierra Canyon. He works best in man coverage and was matched up against some excellent receivers from Servite and Alemany. He is best in pass coverage and I am sure he will improve as a tackler after another year in the weight room. Having a young corner you can trust on an island in man coverage like Tolmaire is a huge asset for Mission Viejo.

Sergio Torres, Santa Ana, QB
Santa Ana is a tough team to evaluate because they are significantly better than all but three of the teams they played on their schedule. Torres, much like the rest of the team, played well against bad teams and struggled against top teams. But he showed enough flashes to make this list and show promise as a quarterback. He throws a good deep ball and has excellent timing with his receivers. He makes smart decisions with the ball and only had two interceptions on the season. Torres is very poised in the pocket and makes good throws under pressure while maintaining his footwork.
