CIF-STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES
DIVISION 2-AA
Mater Dei Catholic vs. Central Catholic
Analysis: This game is a clash of styles. Central Catholic wants to run the ball down Mater Dei’s throat and Mater Dei Catholic wants to air it out. Aiden "Ponyboy" Taylor had a massive game in the Regional Championships with 281 yards rushing and Julian Lopez is a great runner as well. Central Catholic can rush the passer with Jericho Machado and their secondary can pick the ball off. [player_tooltip player_id="145214" first="Dominic" last="Nankil"] is the better quarterback in this game and Mater Dei’s skill players, [player_tooltip player_id="145192" first="Surahz" last="Buncom"], [player_tooltip player_id="145133" first="Jeremiah" last="McClure"] and [player_tooltip player_id="25445" first="Chris" last="Snyder"] can get open against any coverage. [player_tooltip player_id="25375" first="Tre" last="Edwards"] will be tasked with stopping Central Catholic’s run game.

DIVISION 1-AA
Cathedral Catholic vs. Folsom
Analysis: Folsom redeemed itself against De La Salle to win a Section Championship. The Bulldogs are the best team that Cathedral Catholic has played this season and can match them in the talent department. Tyler Tremain is a dual threat quarterback and he has elite weapons like [player_tooltip player_id="25378" first="Rico" last="Flores"], tight ends [player_tooltip player_id="144958" first="Walker" last="Lyons"] and [player_tooltip player_id="145209" first="Mason" last="Norberg"], running back [player_tooltip player_id="190433" first="Donovan" last="Maxey-Parler"]. The defense has [player_tooltip player_id="141911" first="Justin" last="Eklund"], Caden Bienvenue and Josh Tremain. Cathedral will run the ball with elite running back [player_tooltip player_id="141906" first="Lucky" last="Sutton"] and [player_tooltip player_id="141935" first="Charlie" last="Mirer"] runs their double-wing offense well. [player_tooltip player_id="25320" first="Jaxson" last="Moi"] is an elite defensive player but Cathedral Catholic allowed a ton of points in its Regional Championship against Orange Lutheran.

DIVISION 1-A
Serra vs. Liberty
Analysis: Liberty is a well-balanced team on offense with running back Jalen Hankins and quarterback Carson Woods. [player_tooltip player_id="25314" first="Jason" last="Oliver"] is a good two-way player who had three receiving touchdowns in Liberty’s last game against Pittsburg. Serra is a similarly well-balanced team with Texas commit quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="25228" first="Maalik" last="Murphy"] and star sophomore running back [player_tooltip player_id="147716" first="Cincere" last="Rhaney"]. [player_tooltip player_id="25363" first="Grant" last="Buckey"] is an elite pass rusher for the Liberty defense that may give Murphy headaches. [player_tooltip player_id="187004" first="Riley" last="Hernandez"] will be tasked with stopping Rhaney. Serra has had a tougher road to get to this point.
The pick: Serra

DIVISION 3-A
Birmingham at McClymonds
Analysis: This is a fun LA vs. Oakland matchup between two talented teams. Dreyan Paul is a good dual threat quarterback for McClymonds and he has athletes around him like Jaivian Thomas and [player_tooltip player_id="187003" first="Dwayne" last="McDougle"]. [player_tooltip player_id="187274" first="Tigana" last="Cisse"] of McClymonds is the best lineman in this game. Birmingham has star two-way players [player_tooltip player_id="25318" first="Arlis" last="Boardingham"] and Delamonte Barnes. McClymonds beat fellow State Finalist Marin Catholic of Kentfield earlier this season. Birmingham tested itself against Southern Section teams this season, but went 0-5 in such games.
The pick: McClymonds
OPEN DIVISION
Mater Dei vs. Serra (San Mateo)
Analysis: Calpreps.com predicts Mater Dei will win this game 48-0. Not so fast my friend. Serra has a ton of talent like quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="141901" first="Dominique" last="Lampkin"] who has offers from Fresno State among others. They are good up front with linemen [player_tooltip player_id="141946" first="Drew" last="Azzopardi"] and [player_tooltip player_id="141959" first="Nathan" last="Elu"]. Mater Dei quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="147708" first="Elijah" last="Brown"] is undefeated as a starter. [player_tooltip player_id="25225" first="Raleek" last="Brown"] is the best running back in the state and Mater Dei’s offensive line is good and young, particularly on the left side with [player_tooltip player_id="147719" first="DeAndre" last="Carter"] and [player_tooltip player_id="147730" first="Brandon" last="Baker"]. Mater Dei’s defense is one of the best I’ve ever seen on the front seven with [player_tooltip player_id="25234" first="David" last="Bailey"], [player_tooltip player_id="25282" first="Malaki" last="Te’o"], [player_tooltip player_id="25447" first="Levi" last="Sua"] and [player_tooltip player_id="195568" first="Tanner" last="Williams"] and in the secondary with [player_tooltip player_id="25274" first="Cam" last="Sidney"], [player_tooltip player_id="25264" first="Josh" last="Hunter"] and [player_tooltip player_id="25281" first="Quincy" last="Craig"]. This game will not be 48-0. Serra deserves much more respect and I am going to give it to them! Will they pull off the upset though? Of course not.
