As the New Jersey High School football season has come to an end. Here’s a look back at some of the best throws from every round of the playoffs.
[player_tooltip player_id="181955" first="Derek" last="Namnun"], Delran
This throw stood about because it came at a crucial moment when Delran was about to tie the game in the later stages. An on-time and in-rhythm throw while utilizing the pump fake to cause the defender to bite on the underneath route. Opening up the 9 route for a walk-in touchdown on a deep ball that was accurately placed and gave the receiver an opportunity for yards after the catch.

[player_tooltip player_id="214413" first="Frankie" last="Garbolino"], North Brunswick
Garbolino showed both his arm strength and deep ball accuracy on this throw. While standing tall in the pocket he delivered a beautiful pass in the middle of the field that landed right in his receiver’s hands for a 20+ yard gain. We would ultimately love for this ball to be put in a position where the receiver can make a play after the catch, but this is a beautiful throw nonetheless. The best part about this throw is that it was on time and in rhythm. Notice after he takes the last step of his drop the ball is out and on time.
Garbolino is a gifted passer and should be one of the top quarterbacks going into the 2023 season.

Saquan Gordon, Irvington
Now you may look at this throw and say what did he actually do? Get the ball out quick? Not put the ball in danger? Get it to a playmaker with the ability to make a play after the catch? If these were your responses then they all were correct.
This specific throw made the list because of the circumstances around it. This was a game that went back and forth in terms of touchdowns, penalties, etc. Gordon didn’t have the most exciting game but, what he did do was not turn it over, get the ball out on time and utilize his teammates to get key first downs and touchdowns.
Northern Highlands scored on the drive prior, to take the lead heading into the final minute of the regional championship game. On this throw, this was the last drive of the game for Irvington where they just committed a penalty, the play prior. With the game on the line and the pressure the greatest, he kept his cool and delivered an accurate pass that ultimately led to the game-winning touchdown.
Saquon Gordon is a QB that is unfazed by pressure and comes up big consistently when his team needs him the most. Thus, capping off his senior season with a state title.

[player_tooltip player_id="190996" first="Jay" last="Mazuera"], Hillsborough
The best touch throw of playoffs where the route and the throw had to be on point for this key first down.
Hillsborough was in a tough game versus North Brunswick, driving before the half. The receiver runs a nice corner route attacking a cornerback who was playing with inside leverage. Mazuera utilizes good footwork and timing to release this throw just a little before the receiver makes the outside break.
The ball location is the highlight of the throw. Placing it on the receiver upfield shoulder, with enough time for him to adjust to it while also placing it away from the defender and between the sideline for a nice touch throw in a crucial moment.
