Here, I’ll go through our #4 – #7 ranked Tight Ends and give some strengths and weaknesses. One thing that’s really stood out to me about these guys is how well they all balance each other out, and how all of these guys could jump into the top 3.
#4 Alex Gillum Alex Gillum 6'6" | 215 lbs | TE Flat Rock | 2024 State MI (#98 overall)
I was very impressed with Gillum’s tape when I first watched. Gillum has demonstrated that he can do it all, as he has many highlights both blocking and receiving, with a few on defense. He’s an excellent height for a tight end at 6’5″, but he’s just 190lbs, which leaves some room for improvement in the weight room. If he can put on a ton more muscle weight, I don’t see why he can’t dethrone the 3 standouts at the top of this TE class.
#5 Jake Jacoby Jake Jacoby 6'3" | 210 lbs | TE Marshall | 2024 State MI (#107 overall)
It was difficult deciding if Jacoby should have been in the receiver category, since he mostly lines up wide and plays a very big-body wideout. Though, I do beleive at 6’4″ 205lbs he is a great size for a Tight End, and his social media labels him as such. As the rankings show, him and Gillum are very close in ranking. Jacoby is for sure one of the better pass catchers in this class, but he has little to no film blocking on the line, which is something I value a ton when looking at a TE. Regardless, Jacoby racked up some amazing receiving stats and he’s not someone that I expect to fall, but only to rise in the rankings.
#6 Easton Boggs Easton Boggs 6'6" | 225 lbs | DL Lenawee Christian | 2024 State MI (#119 overall)
Boggs is a great 6’4″ monster tight end. Coming from a small school, Boggs can do it all. He has significant experience blocking and well as receiving, as he can highpoint the ball well in addition to bulldozing anyone he needs to block. Boggs started as a freshman and had another monster year this year that he’ll look to build off of in 2022. This is another guy that I can see rising in the ranks. If anything, it’s only the strength of competition keeping him down, but it will all even out once he plays in 2022.
#7 Drew Kelbert Drew Kelbert 6'3" | 225 lbs | TE Livonia Franklin | 2024 State MI (#122 overall)
Kelbert may be at the bottom of the ranked TE’s for now, but he’s still a beast on a very good team playing some very good competition. Standing at 6’3″ 220lbs, Kelbert has the size to both block and catch passes very effectively. His height isn’t hurting him in any way- but it may just be more attractive to colleges if he was an inch or two taller, which is obviously something he can’t do anything about. If I had to guess, Kelbert may be one of our highest risers when the next big update drops. I can seriously see him going up to the top 4, or staying right here. Time will tell.
