Myrtle Beach ensured that would be the case, eventually winning 56-19 while resting the bulk of its starters throughout the second half.
The Seahawks got 206 yards and four touchdowns passing from quarterback Ryan Burger Ryan Burger 6'3" | 175 lbs | QB Myrtle Beach | 2022 State SC – all before the break. But what stood out more than Burger’s passing totals was how he got a whole bunch of receivers involved early.
- Junior Jake Doty was a clear target early, snagging five first-quarter passes for 97 yards and two touchdowns;
- Adam Randall Adam Randall 6'3" | 200 lbs | WR Myrtle Beach | 2022 State SC , the Clemson commit who on Friday was presented with his Under Armour All-America Game jersey, had two for 23 years;
- Tailback Malachi Washington Malachi Washington 5'9" | 160 lbs | RB Myrtle Beach | 2024 State SC had two of his own for 30 yards;
- Freshman Jon Simmons, the tall wideout coach Mickey Wilson is super high on, caught four passes for 39 yards;
- Kenny Brown got his hands just under the a pass while standing in the end zone for a 17-yard touchdown reception;
- And Jason Nash, who had two catches for 5 yards all season entering the night, hauled in a 10-yard scoring reception with under 2 minutes to go until halftime.
That was all by design, as Myrtle Beach is already anticipating more and more attention on Randall, the star who eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards during the eight-game regular season.
“It’s so important,” Wilson said after the game. “Jake’s been great for us all year down the middle of the field playing that Y position. We wanted to get the ball to Jon a little bit tonight. He’s gotten better as the year’s gone on. It’s nice to see him get better. Kenny Brown has stepped up and played well for us as of late. Malachi, of course, we’re really pleased with how he’s doing. … We’ve got to continue to spread the ball out and take what the defense gives us.”
Myrtle Beach will face third-seeded Aiken in the second round next week at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
