Whether it was due to statistical performance, or situational football, each of the players we listed below set themselves apart from all of the others in a good way. This includes players that you may have heard of plenty of times, as well as those who’s names you have never seen. Because of this, we feel that it is worth giving them all a look.
Caleb Downs Caleb Downs 5'11" | 180 lbs | DB Mill Creek | 2023 State GA (DB)- Mill Creek
While many people recognize Downs as one of the most talented players in the state, it was also put on full display last week in his team’s 42-7 win over Peachtree Ridge. In the game, he had 2 interceptions, with one of them being a pick six. He also played great situational football, creating big stops for his team, as well as big hits when his defense needed it most. Perhaps, each of the things he displayed last week are all reasons why we can’t wait to see how he he does at the next level in Power 5 football in a few years.
Dylan Lonergan Dylan Lonergan 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Brookwood | 2023 State GA (QB)- Brookwood
Lonergan, who has been an absolute stud for Brookwood the past few years, had another big performance for his team last week. In this game, he threw for 232 yards, and 4 TD’s. This not only was another one of his big time performances this year, but it helped him to a 31-10 win over Parkview, who has a talented roster as well.
Bryson Hill (RB)- Rome
Hill has continued to keep his success moving forward this year. Last week, he helped his team beat Paulding County 46-34, with his contribution of 3 TD’s and 243 yards. This success came on only 31 carries, and is a direct reflection of the kind of player that he is, and the burden that he is able to carry for an offense.
Ethan Nation Ethan Nation 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Roswell | 2023 State GA (WR)- Roswell
Ethan Nation Ethan Nation 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Roswell | 2023 State GA , who is one of the more impressive WR’s in the state, had a huge performance last week. Not only did he help his team get a 62-6 win over Woodstock, but he managed to score 4 TD’s on only 6 receptions, and 71 yards. If this doesn’t further solidify the fact that he is one of the most talented players in the state, we don’t know what will. Because of this performance, we look forward to seeing how he is able to finish up the year as the playoffs get underway soon.
Ethan Oglesby (LB)- Metter
During Metter’s blowout, 38-0 win he not only solidified himself as one of his team’s best players, but he also proved himself as a defensive force. He had 10 total tackles, with some of them being in big time situational moments. This has largely contributed his impressive statistical success this year, and his team’s undefeated record.
Clay Hyatt (RB)- Haralson County
Hyatt, who is one of the most talented players on Haralson’s roster, has been a big part of his team’s success this year. Last week specifically, he continued his success as he ran for 275 yards, and 4 TD’s. This performance was key in his team’s win, as they came out on top, 35-16 over Bremen.
Tyler Hughes Tyler Hughes 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB Marietta | 2022 State GA (QB)- Marietta
Last week, Hughes had one of his best games of the season. To start, not only did he help lead his squad to a 42-14 win over Walton, but he only had 7 incompletions the entire day. Stat wise, he went 22 for 29, for 346 yards. With this, even more impressively, he threw for 6 total TD’s, which is more in one game than most QB’s throw for in 2-3 games put together.
Bryson Tarver (RB)- Swainsboro
During the game last week against Vidalia, Swainsboro blew them out 48-0. This was largely due to the stellar performance of Bryson Tarver, who rushed the ball 21 times, and helped his team control the entire game. With this came his 168 yards, and 3 TD’s, proving that he was a force to be reckoned with, and that he caused the opposing team to be off balance the entire time.
