As this list continues to change and shake up from week to week, we totally expect it to change even more as the season winds down even more. Regardless, we wanted to take some time to shout-out the state’s leaders to this point of the season, as their performance, and skills are worth noting, and checking out on tape.
Javeon Miller (DE /LB)- Creekside (20 sacks)
Miller, who has been an absolute stud on the defensive side of the ball this season, has already accumulated 20 sacks. Not only is this very impressive, but it has helped his team to an 8-1 overall record. One of his top performances was his game against Banneker, in which he had 8 total tackles, with 3 of them being solo tackles, and 3 sacks. He also had another 3 sack performance against Westlake, where he had 7 total tackles, with 3 of them being solo tackles. Outside of these games, he has accumulated 2 sacks in each of his team’s 7 other games. As a whole, this has added to his gaudy sack total, which is 20 total sacks to this point of the season. Along with this, he has also accumulated 64 total tackles, with an average of 7 tackles a game.
Marquez Harris (DE /LB)- Columbia (18.5 sacks)
Not only has Harris’ defensive performance helped lead his team to a 7-2 record, but it has helped his team become 6-1 in their region as the season begins to wind down. His impressive performance in games has helped him to achieve an 18.5 sack total to this point of the year, putting him only 1.5 sacks away from tying the first place leader in the state. Performances such as his 6 sack, 10 tackle game against Towers, as well as his 3 sack game against Therrell, and 2.5 sack game against KIPP Atlanta is what has helped him to achieve such things. In total, him playing at this high of a level has helped him to have a total of 91 tackles so far, with 61 of them being solo tackles. On average, Harris also averages 11.4 tackles a game, making him a force to be reckoned with.
Kenwan Felton (DE /LB)- Macon County (16 sacks)
When watching Felton line up on defense, it is no shocker that he has already accumulated 16 sacks going into his 9th game of the season. Not only is he a key play maker for his defense, but he also is an instrumental part in his team making key game time, and momentum swinging stops. This has been evident in some of his previous games, as he put up 3 sacks and 7 tackles against Dooly, as well as another 3 sack, 5 tackle performance against Taylor County. In addition to this, he has also had 2 additional games, against opponents such as Schley, and Greenville, in which he has had 2.5 sacks. All of this has been impressive in itself, and as a bigger picture, has helped him to a point in which he has accumulated 53 tackles, with 43 of them being solo tackles.
Demarieo Sims (DE)- Cedartown (14 sacks)
Going into this upcoming game, Sims, who has made a name for himself on this list, has already totaled 14 sacks this year. These big time plays have also helped his team to a 7-1 overall record, with 4 of these wins being within his team’s region. In addition to this, he has had some stellar performances, including that of a 3.5 sack game against Pickens, in which he also had 9 total tackles. Along with this, he also had a 3 sack, 7 tackle game against New Manchester, and a 2.5 performance against Central. He has done all of this while adding to his 58 tackle total, with 38 of them being solo tackles. Each game, he averages about 6.6 tackles, making him a solid play maker for his team. As the year progresses, we think he has a good shot at remaining on this list, but big performance games will be his best friend, and determining factor.
