Out of this list, some players, and even performances were a bit overlooked due to the gaudy stats, and games that other prospects throughout the state may have displayed. Regardless, we feel that these prospects still deserve their shine, and we certainly believe that they are worth taking a look at once you get the chance.
Sam Horn Sam Horn 6'4" | 190 lbs | QB Collins Hill | 2022 State GA (QB)- Collins Hill
It is not often that Horn makes a list of “underrated” performances. This is especially due to the way that Hunter shined last Friday. Regardless, Horn’s performance was solid for hist team, as he continued to play with good decision making, and he threw with good ball placement, and timing. In this game, Horn racked up 371 yards in the air, which is more than most QB’s pass for in the span of 3 games. Due to this gaudy performance, Horn was able to lead his team to a big 48-6 win over Pebblebrook.
Malcom Jones (DB)- Lee County
Last Friday, Jones was probably one of the more underrated MVP’s out of all of the playoff games in the entire state. Against Cambridge, not only did he help his team get the win, but he intercepted two passes. In addition to this, he also returned a kickoff for 80 yards and a TD, proving how versatile he is.
Dominick Cosper (RB)- Trinity Christian
Cosper, who has had multiple games this season in which he performed at a high level, showed us again that he can be a consistent piece to his team’s success. Last Friday, he led Trinity Christian to a win with his legs, as he rushed for 4 TD’s, totaling 24 of the team’s 48 points in their win over Athens Christian. This performance has added on to a successful season for Cosper, in which he has already totaled more than 1,100 yards, and 30 TD’s. Moving forward into the playoffs, it will be fun to see how far Cosper can lead his team with his legs.
J.J. Silva (PK)- Brookwood
It is not often that Kickers get credit, but we like to give it when it is due. Last week, not only was Silva an underrated MVP in the state, but in our eyes, he was the MVP for his team. In this game, he kicked 3 Field Goals. Most impressively, one of these kicks was the game winner, in which they came out on top of North Gwinnett, 17-14.
Tevin Gartrell (RB)- Lincoln County
Even though Gartrell and Lincoln County did not get the win over Irwin County, his performance was electrifying, and was one of the only reasons his team had a chance. In their loss, Gartrell rushed the ball 19 times, and also racked up 220 yards. This performance put him at a good place stat wise for the season, as he finished with a total of 1,280 yards, and 15 TD’s.
Rayne Fry (QB)- Grayson
This past week, Grayson QB was an underrated MVP in the state playoffs, as he threw for his season high passing yards, which was 181 yards. In addition to this, he also threw for 2 TD’s, and made good decisions in both the air, and on the ground. This would eventually help lead his team to a big win over Denmark, in which Grayson saw themselves on top 35-21.
Griffin Green (RB)- First Presbyterian
Perhaps it is because First Presbyterian is an underrated program, but Griffin Green had a great performance last Friday, as he helped lead his team to a shutout win against Mount Vernon. In this game, Green ran the ball 23 times, and totaled 97 yards. In addition to this yardage, he also scored twice, adding even more to the scoreboard. What was also underrated about Green’s performance was the fact that his ability to pound the football, and tire out the opposing defense was critical in his team’s win. As the playoffs advance, it will be interesting to see if he can continue to have these kind of performances.
