The State Championships were full of great wide receiver performances, many of which led their teams to amazing victories. We had division 1 recruits ball out, an under-the-radar prospect break multiple state records, and a basketball star showing what he can do on the biggest stage in high school football. Here are the 4 best wide receiver performances from the state championships.
<strong>Chelsea WR<a href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/13995106/Lucas-Hanifan"> Lucas Hanifan </a></strong>
Hanifan was one of the many Chelsea athletes who turned the intensity and effort way up when it mattered most. This stat line is incredible; 9 receptions for 139 yards and 5 touchdowns. His stats were enough to have his name etched into the history books as Hanifan shatters the state championship record for receiving touchdowns, ties for 1st place in championship points scored (30), and 9th in receptions. He’s got a knack for getting open as he’s a great route runner who is very fast and has an amazing connection to his Quarterback, Lucas Dunn. To make matters even more impressive, Unity Christian was the overwhelming favorite, having averaged just 12.6 points against per game leading up to the war with Chelsea.

<strong>Grand Rapids Catholic Central WR/LB [player_tooltip player_id="30137" first="Nolan" last="Ziegler"] </strong>
This is the second time I’ve featured Ziegler in an article in this series, as the Notre Dame commit had an amazing day on defense as well. On offense, he carried his team totaling 7 receptions, 136 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Ziegler is one of the fastest guys in the state and he’s been using his speed and run after catch ability to torch teams all season long. Now, his Notre Dame journey begins and I cannot wait to see what he accomplishes there.
<strong>Belleville WR [player_tooltip player_id="30160" first="Jeremiah" last="Caldwell"]</strong>
After the Rochester Adams secondary shut down the Grand Blanc passing game in the semifinals, Belleville and Caldwell came in and said "watch this". Caldwell torched man-to-man coverage many times totaling 4 receptions for 204 yards and 3 touchdowns. He could have had more if Belleville didn’t step off the gas towards the end, but because he torched the defense so early, his team took it easy for most of the second half. There isn’t much I can say about Caldwell that hasn’t already been said. He’s incredibly athletic, fast, has great hands, great after the catch, need I say more? The D1 recruit balled out.

<strong>DeWitt WR [player_tooltip player_id="30211" first="Tommy" last="McIntosh"] </strong>
The Wisconsin commit has been playing out of his mind all season, and he showed up on both sides of the ball on Saturday Night. McIntosh had 6 receptions for 90 yards and a touchdown. He was great after the catch and was a focal point of the DeWitt offense.
<strong>Detroit King WR <a href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/14357271/Chansey-Willis-Jr">Chansey Willis Jr.</a></strong>
Willis Jr. was Moore’s top target as he racked up a great 111 yards on 4 receptions. He played his role in the dominant offense very well and showcased great speed and hands catching some beautiful throws from Moore. Willis has been getting it done on the gridiron and hardwood for years, and it’s going to be fun to see what kind of numbers he can put up in basketball this season.
