There aren’t a lot of bigger, well-known programs in the area, but even still, the are produces high-level talent each year. Here are some of the top players to know about in the area who had big seasons this fall.
Donovan Johnson – RB – Calvary Day
There’s a big-time freshman back to know about in the Savannah area, and he’s going to be a household name around the state sooner than later. His name is Donovan Johnson Donovan Johnson 5'11" | 170 lbs | DB Holy Innocents | 2022 State GA , and he’s a big, bruising back stands at 6-foot-1 195-pounds and uses his size and power to his advantage. He’s as big as a senior and breaks tackles like one too. Johnson shows good strength, balance, vision, and again, the ability to break tackles. That’s what he does. He’s a big play waiting to happen and is tough to bring down by just one defender. Even as a freshman, Johnson has made a name for himself and could be one of the state’s best over the next few years. So far this season, Johnson has rushed 159 times for 1,289 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Ravon Grant – WR – Richmond Hill
Arguably the top WR in the area, Grant is coming off an excellent junior season where he showed off great hands, body control, and the ability to make the circus catch. He’s not the biggest or fastest receiver out there, but he’s fundamentally sound, athletic, and has great ball skills. He showed he can be a downfield threat and consistently made big plays all season. He ended the year with 46 catches for 793 yards and 5 touchdowns.
Jordan Triplett – RB – Frederica Academy
There could be a young star in the making in the.Savannah area, and it’s the sophomore back at Frederica Academy. Triplett is an excellent runner who took the region by storm last year as a freshman, and he’s improved this year in year two. The 6-foot-0 185-pounder is a big play waiting to happen with great speed and strength for his size. He knows how to make a defender miss, he’s tough to tackle for just one defender, and was a true game-changer last season. Even as a sophomore, Triplett has put the offense on his back this season, rushing 261 times for 1,699 yards and 26 touchdowns. His biggest game of the season came against St. Andrews where he rushed for over 440 yards and six touchdowns.
Langston Lewis – DB – Islands
A two-sport star who also shines on the baseball diamond, Lewis is an true athlete who mad a lot of plays in the secondary this season. The 6-foot-0 185-pounder was a ball-hawk this past season as a senior, picking off 5 total passes in an area that doesn’t throw the ball to often. When the ball was in his area, Lewis was going to come down with it. As the best athlete on the team, Lewis also helped out on offense, making plays at both running back and receiver. In addition to being a standout defender, Lewis made 15 receptions as a receiver for 162 yards and one touchdown. He also carried the ball five times for 76 yards and one touchdown.
Louis Hicks – Linebacker – South Effingham
The senior linebacker was one of the few bright spots for the struggling Mustangs this past season, but he shined all fall as a top-notch defender. He’s not overly big, but he’s one of the fiercest and toughest defenders in the area. He’s quick, instinctive, and doesn’t miss tackles. He can dissect plays in a hurry and gets to the ball carrier quickly. The senior linebacker made 100 tackles and 10 TFLs this season to go along with two sacks.
