If you’re a great athlete, and you can play on both sides of the ball, there’s a chance you’ll be asked to do it. It’s not easy, and not everyone can do it, but there are plenty of sophomores who made it happen this past fall.
Here are some impressive two-way players in the 2024 class to know about…
Joseph Stone Joseph Stone 5'11" | 180 lbs | DB Grayson | 2024 State GA – ATH – Grayson
One of the top 2024 athletes in the state, Stone is a two-way player who right now is playing predominantly on offense. At the next level, Stone is someone who can make plays in all three phases of the game. He’s a quick, explosive weapon who can make plays running and catching the ball. He started out the season at QB as one of the top athletes on the team, but has been excellent with the ball in his hands as a runner with 586 rushing yards and six touchdowns in the regular season. He’s also an excellent defensive back prospect, and that might be where he plays at the next level. He’s coming off a three-touchdown performance in the 1st round and he holds offers from Penn State, Arkansas, Florida State, among others.
Jalewis Solomon – WR/DB – Schley County
Already one of the biggest playmakers in Middle Georgia, Solomon is just a sophomore and making a giant impact on both sides of the football. One of the more impressive two-way players in the entire state this season, Solomon is a big-play waiting to happen at receiver with his 54 catches for 913 yards and 13 touchdowns. He’s incredible quick, agile, and changes directions with ease. He’s a threat to score every time he touches the ball. Defensively, the 6-foot-1 180-pounder has been a lockdown defensive tack, making 20 total tackles and picking off four passes so far this season. He’s recently earned offers from Georgia and LSU with many more likely on the way.
Keshawn Weathers – ATH – Towers
The Decatur native from metro-Atlanta has had a breakout sophomore season this fall, making giant plays on both sides of the ball this year. Always one of the top athletes on the field, Weathers is a quick, twitchy 6-foot-0 170-pounder with big-play ability. During the regular season, Weathers was his best as a pass catcher as he hauled in 57 balls for 831 yards and 4 touchdowns. He’s also added 155 rushing yards and one more touchdown. He’s also an excellent, physical defensive back on defense. He shows quick feet, great ball skills, and could see some college interest come his way this offseason.
Antavious Murphy – WR/DB – Bainbridge
There’s a new dynamic athlete in Bainbridge and it’s Antavious Murphy. The quick, versatile 5-foot-10 165-pounder can make lots of plays at both WR and DB, showing his early instincts as he really shined this season as a sophomore. He’s a good athlete with enough ball skills to make an impact as a receiver, but he knows how to force turnovers and make plays against the pass at cornerback. He’s not overly big, but he makes a lot of plays and clearly has D1 talent.
Mike Matthews Mike Matthews 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Parkview | 2024 State GA – WR/DB – Parkview
In Gwinnett County is where you’ll find another impact athlete who can play multiple positions. MAtthews was outstanding at receiver this year, catching 48 passes this year for 764 yards and 7 touchdowns. He’s a big target at 6-foot-2 175-pounds and can make plays in the secondary as well. He’s big and long enough to cover bigger receivers and tight ends, but he’s physical enough to come down and help against the run. On defense, Matthews made 25 tackles, picked off one pass, and blocked a kick.
