We had teams in some dog fights and others put the game away early, showing their dominance. Listed below are players who flexed their muscles along with their teams in very impressive wins.
DL Luke Roaten (2022) – Tomball
It was not only Roaten, but the entire Tomball defense stepped up against a very talented Cypress Park offense. There is no completely stopping a team like that, but that Cougar defense came as close as anyone has to doing so. Roaten led the way on the line, causing havoc on every snap and sniffing out misdirection runs consistently. Roaten was seen shedding blocks on every snap and finding his way into the backfield. He had many quarterback hurries as well. He and the defensive line were the outstanding players, stopping everything up front and not being fooled by much. Their play energized the entire Cougar team.
WR Kole Wilson (2022) – Paetow
Wilson had some unlucky calls on 2 fantastic punt returns for touchdowns that were called back, but he looked like an absolute stud on the field. His ability to make defenders miss is top notch and he is a smooth player. It is all fluid and combined with his athletic ability, Wilson is one of the most dangerous players on the field. For the game, he hauled in an early 15 yard touchdown reception and added a few more catches before calling it a night. This offense will be difficult for any team to contain as the playoffs continue with these star players
DB Kentrell Webb (2022) – Paetow
Webb was a big part of the Panther defense success Thursday night. His play and leadership on the field was a main contributor to the energy brought to the game. Webb had an impressive pick 6 right before half, where he showed his skills and awareness by opening up his hips and getting his head turned around. He snatched the ball out of the air and returned it 44 yards to put a stamp on the game before halftime. Paetow is just showing week by week that they had dawgs at every
position and are a gold mine of talent.
QB Cale Hellums (2022) – Tomball
Hellums went straight beast mode for the game against Cypress Park. He was a different player on the field and seemed unstoppable throughout the night. Every time Cypress Park seemed to have momentum, Hellums made a big play to deflate the hope they had. Hellums threw for 137 yards with 2 touchdowns, including a bomb to receiver Derrick Taylor for 90 yards, but did most of the damage on the ground, running for 252 yards on 15 carries with 2 touchdowns of 61 yards and 35 yards. He just took the hearts from the Tiger defense every time they thought they had a stop. Just an incredible showing from he and the Tomball team.
RB Damyrion Phillps (2023) – Paetow
This kid is something special. The way he can hit an open lane and outrun an entire defense is incredible to watch. Phillips has a different gear and can break off a big run with just a little daylight. Phillips had 3 touchdowns runs of 76 yards, 26 yards, and 6 yards. After a dominating first half, he and the Panthers cruised for the rest of the game to a blowout victory. The Paetow Panthers are forreal and is most definitely a team to continue to keep eyes on with their talent.
