[player_tooltip player_id="145191" first="Deven" last="Bryant"], St. John Bosco, 2023
Bryant and the St. John Bosco defense had one of the most impressive performances of the season in a 24-10 win over Servite. The junior had 15 tackles, 10 of them solo, 1.5 sacks and a fumble recovery. He has a knack for being around the ball and has forced three fumbles this season with 65 tackles.

Cody Grbic, Edison, 2022
Edison is one of my favorite teams to watch because they aren’t loaded with Division 1 prospects but still competes hard against teams with loads of them. The Chargers are just a team of talented players who are well-coached and disciplined. Grbic had two interceptions last week against Huntington Beach while his brother Austin had a sack. Grbic and the Edison secondary will have plenty of chances for big plays against a pass-happy Murrieta Valley team in round one of the Division 2 playoffs this week.

Jalen Johnson, Long Beach Poly, 2022
Long Beach Poly wrapped up its annual domination of the Moore League with a blowout win over Lakewood. Tons of defensive players shined in the first half of that game before getting pulled. Johnson had six tackles, two for a loss and an interception. He is Poly’s defensive captain and may rack up a ton of tackles against a run-heavy Trabuco Hills team this week.

Anthony Villalobos, Canoga Park, 2022
Villalobos is one of the best defensive players in the LA City Section and could be on this list every week. He had a nice game in a close loss against Reseda with a sack and a forced fumble. He leads the City Section in tackles with 116 on the season and are sixth in the Section in sacks with six. Canoga Park will play Franklin in the City Section Division 1 playoffs this week.

Finley Weinheimer, Mission Viejo, 2022
Much like Edison above, Mission Viejo is a defense with no Division 1 recruits at the moment, but full of talented players who are disciplined. The Diablos shut out league rival San Clemente to clinch the South Coast League championship. Weinheimer is a lengthy defensive end who can get in the backfield and did so against San Clemente. He had 11 tackles and three sacks in the 45-0 win and two more tackles for a loss.
