On Friday November 5th, 2021 I decided to go to Rhodes Stadium to watch The Seven Lakes Trojans (7-3) vs The Cinco Ranch Cougars (6-4). These two teams are probably in the most difficult district in Houston having to compete against powerhouse high schools like The Katy Tigers and The Tompkins Falcons. This has only made these two teams stronger which resulted in a competitive game between them. The Seven Lakes Trojans had the momentum for the majority of the game as The Cinco Ranch Cougars were playing catch up to stay in the game. The score was close the whole game Cinco Ranch almost came back, but Seven Lakes kept the lead until the very end with a final score of 26-24. I’ll be discussing The Seven Lakes Trojans defensive standouts.
#10 Scott Stanford P, OLB Sr 6’0 190 lbs
Having a player like #10 Scott Stanford is really beneficial. Most of the time your kicker only kicks the ball, but not only is Scott Seven Lakes’ punter he also play outside linebacker. Scott is a pretty good punter always putting the defense in a good spot to take over. In addition, he’s a great linebacker he has superb game sense and splendid tackling form. Scott was always in the action by either making the tackles himself or assisting in tackles. Scott is a reliable outside linebacker and with him in the game Seven Lakes could go a long way in playoffs. Scott ended the night with 5 solo tackles and 8 assist with 13 overall tackles.
#44 Alec Carlberg DE Sr 6’3 235 lbs
Alec Carlberg is a strong and technical defensive linemen. Alec is a defensive end with strength, but uses skills and technique to get through the offensive line. Alec has good foot work which allows him to pull and move, swim move, and power his way through to the back field. Alec was able to get a sack and cause a fumble which gave Seven Lakes a lot of momentum. With his size, speed, strength and technique Alec will be a big help during playoffs.
#96 Shashwat Singh DE Sr 6’5 220 lbs
Another standout defensive end is #96 Shashwat Singh. Shashwat was on the opposite side of Alec Carlberg and those two were causing a lot of havoc on the right and left side. Shashwat is a strong and quick off the ball. Shashwat was persistent and great at pursuing the ball. Even if the ball handler was out of his reach Shashwat would go chase after them until the whistle was blown. Shashwat ended the night with two solo tackles and five assists with seven overall tackles.
#30 Blake Miller CB Sr 5’10
This player didn’t stand out to me at 1st. However, I can definitely see corner back Blake Miller’s potential. All in all Blake had a pretty good game against The Cinco Ranch Cougars. Blake provided good and tight coverage and didn’t allow any separation between him and his man. Blake didn’t make a lot tackles, but that’s because of his great coverage. Blake was able to prevent a touchdown pass by getting in front of pass and intercepting it.
