Not only have each of these players dominated on the defensive side of the ball for their team, but they have shown out in ways that have allowed for their team to remain in contention. Below, you will see how each of these players have managed to accumulate impressive seasons, and put themselves in place to finish the year strong.
Marquez Harris (DE)- Columbia (22 sacks)
Even though Harris and Columbia High School fell to Swainsboro High School this past week, he has managed to be tied for the state lead in sacks following the second round of the playoffs. After this Friday, Harris has added his last sack of the season to his resume, finishing up with 22 total sacks. This has largely come over very impressive games during the season, in which he not only had great solo tackles, but timely sacks, in turn creating big stops for his team. In fact, this past Friday, not only did Harris finish with one last sack for the season, but he also 9 total tackles, with 7 of them being solo tackles. Overall, this performance helped him to finish the year with 114 total tackles, and and average of 10.4 tackles a game. What a way to finish up his senior year.
Kenwan Felton (DE)- Macon (22 sacks)
Felton, who is tied with Harris for the most sacks in the state, has totaled 22 sacks so far this season. The difference between Felton and Harris though, is the fact that Macon High has advanced in the playoffs, awarding Felton an opportunity to overcome Harris, and become the undisputed state leader in sacks. In last week’s playoff game, Felton racked up 7 total tackles, and a sack. In addition to this, Felton has also had plenty of big games this season in which he has recorded multiple sacks. For example, he recorded 3 sacks against Chattahoochee, and 2.5 sacks against both Greenville and Schley. These kind of performances have helped Felton to get up to 80 total tackles, with 64 of them being solo tackles.
Javeon Miller (LB)- Creekside (21 sacks)
Not only has Miller had a great season so far, but his strong defensive performances this year have helped his team to be at a point in which they will enter into the third round of the playoffs this upcoming weekend. Specifically, Miller had a great showing last week as he helped Creekside to get a win over St. Pius X Catholic. In this game alone, he not only had a sack, but he also had 11 total tackles. To get to this incredible sack total, Miller has racked up plenty of multiple sack games this season. To be specific, he racked up 2 sacks in games against Westlake, Forest Park, Mundy’s Mill, and Jonesboro. Miller also had 3 sack games against teams such as Tri Cities, Drew, and Benneker. As the playoffs continue, Miller will have a chance at competing for the state lead in sacks.
Clark Jackson (LB)- Aquinas (17 sacks)
Even though Jackson and Aquinas is out of competition for the season, he has still found himself in the top 10 in sacks in the state. Better yet, he is ranked 4th overall with 17 sacks. Hopefully for Jackson, he won’t be overcome by the 5th and 6th leaders in sacks in the state. Regardless, Jackson has had a very impressive season so far, as he has also recorded plenty of solo tackles, along with rushing yards on the ground.
