Upstate teams were in some thrillers in Friday’s second round, and several survived to the third. Here’s a look at some second-round performances worthy of Prep Redzone game balls.
The thinking was that Gaffney would have to score a bunch of points to beat T.L. Hanna. They did just that, behind three playmakers. [player_tooltip player_id="31310" first="Tyler" last="Smith"] rushed for 93 yards and 3 scores <strong>Ken Littlejohn</strong> had 123 yards and a touchdown, and [player_tooltip player_id="89340" first="Grayson" last="Loftis"] threw for 187 yards and two score as the Indians avenged last year’s playoff loss, their last defeat.
Spartanburg weathered a fourth quarter flurry to defeat Spring Valley, and [player_tooltip player_id="89339" first="Raheim" last="Jeter"] led the way. He threw for 3 touchdowns, all three to <strong>Tiheim Richardson</strong>. Virginia Tech commit <strong>John Love</strong> knocked in 3 field goals in the win.
Clinton staged a comeback win over Lower Richland, outscoring the Diamond Hornets 28-7 in the second half.<strong> Jishun Copeland</strong> rushed for 129 yards, <strong>Bryson James</strong> ran for 125, and each scored 3 touchdowns for the Red Devils.
Even in a loss, Chapman’s playmakers stood out. [player_tooltip player_id="153248" first="Drew" last="Settle"] threw for 293 yards and a score, [player_tooltip player_id="153245" first="DJ" last="Black"] made another unbelievable touchdown grab, and <strong>Derrick Miller</strong> had 200 yards of total offense for the Panthers.
