They face Torrey Pines in the first round Friday, November 12th in the rematch of a 34-33 thriller that ended with a last-second TD pass from QB Julian Sayin Julian Sayin 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB Carlsbad | 2024 State CA to WR Josh Davis in October. Here are the players to watch in what the Lancers hope to be a long playoff push:
Julian Sayin Julian Sayin 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB Carlsbad | 2024 State CA – QB, 2024
Sayin proved why he’s the #1 QB in CA’s 2024 class in his first year as a starter. He was highly effective guiding the offense throwing for over 2,000 yards and 30 TDs this season. He’s shown elite arm talent and accuracy pushing the ball downfield. He makes good decisions with the ball and has a quick and effortless release. He’s shown the ability to move in the pocket buying time and keeping his eyes downfield to find receivers. Sayin has the tools and pieces around him to help guide the Lancers to a potentially long playoff run.

Matthew Moore- WR, 2022
Moore provides a spark on offense as an explosive playmaker and vertical threat in the passing game. He’s a dynamic athlete with great speed and can catch in stride or get up over DBs downfield. He’s shifty and elusive in space with ability to turn underneath routes and jet sweeps into big plays. Moore has had a quiet recruitment as one of the more underrated receivers in San Diego but should see some interest coming his way after an impressive senior season.

Anthony Ferrelli- RB/LB, 2022
Ferrelli is a two-way standout at RB and LB. He’s an aggressive sideline-to-sideline tackler that reads and reacts well. At RB, he’s a physical downhill runner that shows burst through the hole and can make plays catching the ball out of the backfield. Ferrelli picked up offers from USD, Valparaiso, and Stony Brook in October.

Barrett Brennan- LB, 2022
Brennan and fellow LB Ferrelli have proven to be one of the top duos at the position in San Diego this season. He and Ferrelli are athletic LBs with great range and both cover tons of ground as tacklers. Brennan has shown versatility this season playing at the LOS pass rushing off the edge and containing outside runs. He has the length to tip passes at the LOS and uses his hands to keep blockers off his body. Brennan will continue to be a key player to watch on Carlsbad’s defense throughout the playoffs.

Dominic Marin- DE, 2022
Marin is a disruptive pass rusher off the edge for Carlsbad’s front seven. He can beat OTs 1-on-1 with natural strength/athleticism and good technique. He plays with leverage and shows instincts and length tipping passes at the LOS. Marin will be tasked with slowing down Torrey Pines QB Remi Baere who threw for 4 TDs in their meeting earlier this season.
