The players listed all played a major role in their teams victory and at some points looked to be the best on the field, and had a direct impact on the outcome. We look forward to see the players perform again next round!
QB Cale Hellums (2022) – Tomball
Hellums had a performance of a lifetime in a tough, hard fought win vs. Rockwall-Heath. This man was on another level when running the ball and gave it all he had for the entire game. Hellums showed great vision as a runner and the power to carry defenders for extra yards on his runs. Hellums carried the ball 38 times for 311 yards and 3 touchdowns that included a 5 yard, 13 yard, and an outstanding 70 yard run where he showed off the jets and outran the entire Rockwall-Heath defense. Hellums showed that he is the guy you want on your team in a dog fight and he will be one to have eyes on next round!
RB Jacob Brown (2022) – Paetow
Man it was nice to see Brown back to his old ways in this matchup vs. Cedar Park. Second play from scrimmage, Brown had a house call of 72 yards and did not slow down for the rest of the game. He constantly beat down the Cedar Park defense and showed that he did not miss a step in his time away with injury. Brown’s acceleration through the open lane is a sight to see, and he does not shy away from contact whatsoever. Brown finished the game with 11 carries for 249 yards, and 4 touchdowns that came from runs of 72 yards, 25 yards, 12 yards, and 59 yards before he called it a day in a blow out win for the Paetow Panthers. He and the Panthers look like the team to beat thus far in the playoffs as they continue their dominance.
DL Samu Taumanupepe (2023) – Atascocita
Taumanupepe deserves all of the attention for the effort he gave against Ridge Point. He was an absolute force and disruptor every time he touched the field, and caused so much havoc in the middle of the line, the Ridge Point run game could not get started. Play after play, Taumanupepe had his opponent 4 to 5 yards in the backfield. Pure strength and power, and too much to handle for the Ridge Point offensive line. He had multiple hurries, tallied a few sacks as well as tackles for losses. He was a big part of the Atascocita defensive success and was truly unstoppable at times.
RB Torrie Curry (2022) – Summer Creek
Curry made sure his team got the win vs Cinco Ranch and it started from the beginning. After his team went down early, Curry went into another gear. Behind excellent blocking, Curry ran through the Cinco Ranch defense like it was swiss cheese. When he saw daylight, it was game over. Curry had big run after big run, just leaving defenders in the dust with his quick feet! For the game Curry was well over 100 yards and scored 4 touchdowns, including a 40 yarder where he carried defenders into the endzone, and a 35 yarder that took the life out of the defense. He was phenomenal the entire game.
RB Marquise Collins Marquise Collins 5'10" | 190 lbs | RB College Station | 2023 State TX (2023) – College Station
Collins was acting up against Wakeland and continued his dominance during this playoff run. Collins showed that he was too physical for the Wakeland defense, and honestly just wore them out. He did not go down easily, and powered through defenders on just about every carry. Collins put up an amazing stat line of 34 carries for 231 yards, and 4 touchdowns to help his team get the W and move on to a next round matchup vs. Denton Ryan. Collins will without a doubt be a focal point but know that he will accept any challenge presented to he and his team.
