Continue ReadingHouston high school football playoff round two had a big game of the week. Two of the best football teams in Houston clashed on Friday November 19th, 2021. The Dickinson Gators (9-3) vs The Atascocita Eagles (10-2) was an exciting game. The game started off with The Dickinson Gators setting the tempo off early their defense held off the strong offensive Atascocita Eagles to zero points the whole 1st half. The score before halftime was 14-0 with The Dickinson Gators in the lead. However, during the 3rd quarter Atascocita Eagles got their second wind and was efficiently moving the ball and scored two by the end of the quarter. The 4th quarter was a battle and the game went down to the last second and the final score was 22-21 Atascocita Eagles winning with a field goal at the end of the game. The Atascocita Eagles had a lot of standouts on both sides of the ball I’ll be discussing the standouts on the defensive side.
#4 De’marcus Peter CB, SB Sr 5’9 170 lbs
De’marcus Peter had a great night against The Dickinson Gators. De’marcus is a fast cornerback always providing good coverage. De’marcus didn’t allow to much separation between him and his man. De’marcus was good at reading plays as well majority of the time he could tell where the ball was going. Because of that De’marcus was able to get two interceptions. De’marcus is a college prospect in his senior year having two offers from Howard Payne University and Louisiana College.
#99 Samu Taumanupepe DT, NG Jr 6’3 350 lbs
On the defensive line size is very important and that’s why defensive tackle and nose guard Samu Taumanupepe stood out to me. Samu is the biggest defensive lineman I have seen in high school being weighted at 350 pounds. For Samu being that big he’s also quick on his feet with great footwork. Samu used both power and quickness to get off the ball and get into the backfield. Samu is a complete beast definitely a standout defensive lineman for his size, speed and strength. Samu has one offer from Texas State University, but by the end of playoffs and his senior year Samu will become a top college prospect.
#9 Jonah Caseltine WR, TE, DE Sr 6’3 210 lbs
Another defensive lineman standout is defensive end Jonah Caseltine. Jonah was quick and fast off the ball he used quickness and technique to get into the backfield and stop run plays. Jonah would at times back off and play as a linebacker as well. Whether, Jonah was a linebacker or defensive end he was always quick, decisive and in the action. Jonah currently has a college offer from Louisiana College.
#30 Micah Tate DE, OLB Sr 6’3 225 lbs
Micah Tate is an outside linebacker and what stood out to me was his patience and intelligence. Micah is great at reading offensive plays as all linebacker should be. Micah always kept a close eye on the ball and knew exactly where it was going. Micah was also aggressive and had great tackling form. Micah is a college prospect having an offer from Howard Payne University.
