The first week of the postseason were filled with emotions. Many teams have ended their season short and many have advanced to the second round.
Overall, there was some great football being played this weekend. That being said, scroll down below to check out the scores from the first round in the Garden State.
<span style="font-size: 24pt;"><strong>South, Group 2</strong></span>
<span style="font-size: 24pt;"><strong>Nottingham 28 vs Haddon Heights 14</strong></span>
Nottingham takes down Haddon Heights to win their first playoff game in eight years. <em>Senior RB Isaiah Barnes (Nottingham)</em> had a big day on both sides of the ball. Offensively, Barnes had 2 TDs and total of 93 yards. Defensively, he returned an interception for 50 yards. Nottingham did a great job limiting big plays and getting off the field on third down. Haddon Heights were held to 73 yards rushing and 75 yards passing. They couldn’t get anything going as Nottingham controlled the game after the first drive. Nottingham will remain undefeated and will face second seeded (7-3) Willingboro Friday night.
<span style="font-size: 24pt;"><strong>Central, Group 5</strong></span>
<span style="font-size: 24pt;"><strong>Williamstown 34 vs Southern 20</strong></span>
<em>Senior RB [player_tooltip player_id="27990" first="Turner" last="Inge"] (Williamstown)</em> carried the team on his back after his big performance Friday night. Inge had 27 carries for 218 yards and 3 TDs and was nearly unstoppable. Williamstown managed to score on their first drive of the game to get out to an early lead. However, Southern quickly responded with a 33 yard touchdown pass to <em>Senior RB [player_tooltip player_id="28012" first="Jaiden" last="Brown"] (Southern). </em>Williamstown defense made a strong effort in keeping Brown under 100 yards rushing. The rushing attack from Inge was too much for Southern to contain. Williamstown will advance to second round to take on undefeated (10-0) Hillsborough on Friday night. Williamstown will need another strong performance from Inge to have a chance to upset.
<span style="font-size: 24pt;"><strong>South, Group 4</strong></span>
<span style="font-size: 24pt;"><strong>Toms River South 0 vs Millville 58 </strong></span>
Millville rolls over Toms River South in dominate fashion. <em>Senior QB [player_tooltip player_id="190993" first="Nate" last="Robbins"] (Millville)</em> was flawless from under center. Robbins went 8 for 8 for 215 yards and 3 TDs. Also, Senior RB [player_tooltip player_id="27978" first="LeQuint" last="Allen"] (Millville) had a big performance on both sides of the ball. Offensively, Allen had 8 carries for 76 yards and 2 TDs. Also, caught 3 passes for 76 yards and a score. Millville will advance to the second to take on (8-2) Pennsauken who are on a five game winning streak.
<span style="font-size: 24pt;"><strong>South, Group 4</strong></span>
<span style="font-size: 24pt;"><strong>Mainland 7 vs Ocean City 41</strong></span>
Mainland could not handle Ocean City’s two headed monster. Ocean City’s run game that featured two running backs helped them advance to the next round. <em>Senior RB Sean Mazzitelli (Ocean City)</em> had 22 carries for 140 yards 2 TDs and <em>Senior RB Jacob Wilson (Ocean City)</em> had 19 carries for 153 yards and 2 TDs. These two ran with bad intentions with their season on the line and made sure they were not the ones going home. Ocean City will play the winner between Long Branch vs Freehold Borough.
