Two of last year’s three semifinalists are still alive in the Class 4 playoffs: MICDS and Smithville. The year started with only three of the four as last year’s champion, Jefferson City Helias, was bumped up to Class 5. Union, the third semifinalist, lost in a district title game last week.
<strong>Friday Games</strong>
<strong>No. 4 West Plains at No. 3 Hannibal</strong>
West Plains got a stellar performance from senior LB [player_tooltip player_id="96259" first="Connor" last="Lair"] in a 42-7 win against No. 8 McDonald County. Lair ran nine times for 100 yard and 3 TDs, caught four passes for 92 yards and 1 TD. On defense he had 10 tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks and one pass breakups. … Hannibal built a 41-0 lead at halftime on the way to a 47-0 win over Jefferson City. Sophomore RB [player_tooltip player_id="130203" first="Aneyas" last="Williams"] had 208 yards between rushing and receiving and had four total touchdowns. He had a 76-yard touchdown run, 67-yard touchdown pass and 25-yard touchdown pass and also returned a punt 65 yards for a score. Williams now has 37 touchdowns on the season, two shy of the school record. Hannibal is 11-0, while West Plains is 10-1.
<strong>No. 1 Smithville at No. 6 Lincoln College Prep</strong>
This game pits two of the four remaining undefeated teams in Class 4. Smithville, who lost to Helias in the semifinals, returned to the playoffs by blasting Excelsior Springs, 52-10. The Warriors (10-0) rushing attack had five touchdowns from five different ball carriers, while quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="179109" first="Andrew" last="Hedgecorth"] was effective when passing, completing 6 of 7 for 123 and two scores. … Lincoln College Prep (11-0) won’t be hosting this game on the blue turf after a recommendation by MSHSAA to move the game to a stadium with more seating, so it will be at the Interscholastic League stadium at Southeast High School. The Blue Tigers turned a 14-6 halftime lead into a blowout 41-18 win over No. 10-ranked Nevada. Sophomore LB Graylen Glasgow had 11 ½ tackles, three tackles for loss and a sack, while senior DB Jahuan Stuckey added nine tackles in the district finals.
<strong>Saturday Games</strong>
<strong>No. 9 Vashon at North County</strong>
Vashon (9-1) reached the quarterfinals after beating No. 5-ranked Union in the district championship game, while North County (11-1) beat No. 7-ranked Hillsboro. … The North County defense pitched its fourth shutout of the season with a 24-0 win. Junior SS [player_tooltip player_id="193116" first="Jobe" last="Smith"] capped the scoring with a 27-yard interception return in the fourth quarter. On offense, he ran for 113 yards. … Vashon freshman RB [player_tooltip player_id="201724" first="Dierre" last="Hill"], Jr. ran for 310 yards and 4 TDs to help the Wolverines advance. Hill has offers from Arkansas and Arkansas State.
<strong>No. 2 MICDS at St. Dominic</strong>
A rematch of Week 8 that MICDS won 47-13 … MICDS, last year’s runner-up, is coming off a 42-6 win over Parkway North to improve to 11-0. All of the points came in the first half with junior RB Steven Hall combining for 4 TDs, including all three scores on the ground in the second quarter. He also caught a 34 yard pass from [player_tooltip player_id="96126" first="Reagan" last="Andrew"], who tossed for a pair of scores. …. St. Dominic enters with an 8-4 record, including two losses to Class 3 quarterfinalists Cardinal Ritter and St. Mary’s. Senior LB Quinn Kiger had 10 tackles against Hazelwood East. DE [player_tooltip player_id="96184" first="Ryan" last="Schwendeman"], a Southern Illinois pledge at tight end, had six tackles and two sacks as well.
