On paper, there is a district championship game should be a state championship game when No. 1 St. Mary’s hosts No. 2 Valle Catholic in probably the biggest game in Class 3 this Friday.
Here’s a look at the other games around the state:
<strong>District 1</strong>
Kennett at No. 7 Central (Park Hills)
Kennett has two of the best defensive players in the state, stat-wise, in senior LB Ayden Tidd and senior DE [player_tooltip player_id="96232" first="Latrevion" last="Thompson"], a Southeast Missouri State pledge. Thompson has 113 tackles, 43 tackles for loss, 18 sacks, four forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. Tidd has put up 108 tackles, 41 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, seven forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries. ... The Rebels have won eight straight entering the contest. Central's offense is averaging 55.6 points per game, while the defense is allowing on 14.1 per game.
<strong>District 2</strong>
No. 2 Valle Catholic at No. 1 St. Mary’s
Valle Catholic turned a 28-21 halftime lead into a 69-35 win last week against Ste. Genevieve. Junior RB [player_tooltip player_id="103400" first="Bryce" last="Giesler"] ran the ball 39 times for 283 yard and 6 TDs for the Warriors last week. Valle QB Grant Fallert, who has been at the helm since Week 5, went 8 for 12 for 198 and two TDs. … St. Mary’s QB [player_tooltip player_id="172435" first="Caron" last="Spann"], a senior, completed only eight passes last week but five of them went for touchdowns. Three of the five TDs were caught by [player_tooltip player_id="37523" first="Kevin" last="Coleman"], who had three catches for 100 yards.
<strong>District 3</strong>
Cardinal Ritter at No. 5 Lutheran North
These two teams throttled the opponents in the semifinals, winning by a combined score of 112-3. Cardinal Ritter junior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="37669" first="Fredrick" last="Moore"] visited Georgia last week, after recent visits to Kansas and Illinois. … Lutheran North sophomore defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="172169" first="Demetrius" last="Jones"], who is 6-3, 265 pounds, has made 58 tackles, 28 tackles for loss and 13 sacks. He recently went on a visit to Nebraska.
<strong>District 4</strong>
Priory at Owensville
Priory junior QB [player_tooltip player_id="197576" first="Gerard" last="Grewe"] had a big day against St. James last week, throwing for 242 yards and six TDs. He completed 15 of 18 passes and threw to eight different receivers. Senior [player_tooltip player_id="222533" first="Jahaad" last="Fort"] had three catches for 141 yards, while also grabbing two interceptions at free safety. … Owensville senior QB [player_tooltip player_id="96132" first="Brendan" last="Decker"] has put up impressive numbers this year. He has thrown 27 TDs and only 2 INTs, while racking up 2,041 yards in the air. On the ground, he has run for 826 yards.
<strong>District 5</strong>
No. 8 Blair Oaks at Mexico
Defending state champion Blair Oaks knocked off No. 6-ranked Boonville last week. Blair Oaks junior QB [player_tooltip player_id="101691" first="Dylan" last="Hair"] accounted for seven total touchdowns, four on the ground with 169 yards and three throwing for three and 150 yards in a 64-38 win. … Mexico senior RB/FS Michael White has put solid numbers in all aspects for the Bulldogs, with 1,343 yards this year. That includes 658 yards receiving, 206 yards on interception returns and 234 yards on punt returns.
<strong>District 6</strong>
Seneca at Mountain Grove
Each team pulled off upsets last week. Seneca beat No. 10-ranked Aurora, 13-12 after being down 12-0 at halftime. Running back Jaxson Graham and Jackson Marrs combined for 156 yards and two scores for Seneca. … Mountain Grove junior QB Tyson Elliott has thrown for 1,760 yards and completed 71 percent of his passes. He has thrown for 24 TDs and only five INTs.
<strong>District 7</strong>
Summit Christian Academy at Pleasant Hill
The two teams in this district finals pulled upset last week, so it is a No. 3 seed vs. No. 5 seed playing for a right to move on. Summit Christian beat No. 9-ranked Center, 23-18. … The Eagles QB [player_tooltip player_id="193106" first="Joseph" last="Lepak"] and RB Max Shoemake both have four 100-yard games to their resume this fall. … Pleasant Hill RB Brayden Bush had only one touchdown last week against No. 4 Odessa, but it was the biggest one in a 49-48 win. The sophomore finished with 194 yards on 28 carries.
<strong>District 8</strong>
Chillicothe at No. 3 St. Pius X
A pair of Midland Empire Conference schools will meet again, though Pius won the first meeting. … Chillicothe went back to the old-school ground-and-pound attack last week, rolling up 374 yards on the ground, which accounted for 23 of the team’s 26 first downs. Senior RB Damarcus Kelow ran for 199 yards and 3 TDs. … Pius sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="177069" first="Jayshawn" last="Ross"], who has offers from Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, had three catches for 88 yards and a score at WR. On the defensive side of things, the 6-foot-4, 220 pounder, had two tackles for losses.
