The Mahtomedi Zephyrs made short work of the Cooper Hawks during their AAAAA semi-final game last weekend. They will face Mankato West for a right to call themselves AAAAA champions. Here are the offensive stars from Friday’s 34-7 Zephyrs win.
Nicholas Beiersdorf Mahtomedi RB
Beiersdorf followed a great block by offensive lineman John-Paul Johnson to set up the first touchdown run. A block by lineman Dominic Rohrer sprung Beiersdorf on an inside run. Beiersdorf showed his power when he broke a tackle for a first down. He exploded through a hole up the middle for a big gain. He averaged over five yards a carry for the game.
Gunnar Woods Mahtomedi WR
Most of Woods’ impact on the offensive side of the ball came on special teams – he will appear later this week in the defensive story. Two long punt returns set up his offense in great positions. During his second long punt return, he caught the short punt on the run and made a guy miss for a 15-yard return. On offense, he took an end-around for twelve yards,
Jordan Huff Mahtomedi RB
Huff was right there with Beiersdorf as the catalysts of the Zephyrs’ offense. His spinning run showed good feet for eight yards. He also showed how physical of a runner he is as he broke multiple tackles picking up a first down.

Royal was bottled up nicely by the Zephyrs’ defense, but he still showed flashes of one of the best backs in the state. He used a spin move to cap off a nice run early. He showed versatility by catching a swing pass and making a move in the open field to pick up twenty yards.
Dominic Rohrer Mahtomedi FB
Outside of the offensive line, the underappreciated member of this offense was Rohrer. He was burying Hawks’ defenders all afternoon long.
Joseph Heinsch Mahtomedi K
Heinsch was nearly perfect on the game. He was four-for-four kicking extra points. He was perfect on field goals going two-for-two from 33 yards and then 38 yards. He kicked off seven times. His only blemish – one of his seven kickoffs did NOT result in a touchback. Heinsch still put it inside the five-yard line.
