This is going to run through 8A-1A football and showcase one player per team that, if having a good game, gives their team a good chance of winning. With that being said, let’s dive into it.
Crystal Lake Central @ Cary-Grove
Colton Madura Colton Madura 5'11" | 195 lbs | QB Crystal Lake Central | 2022 State IL 5’11 195 22′ QB Twitter
Mr. Madura is one to keep an eye on during this matchup as he gets it done in both the air and ground attack. He puts a touch on the deep throw when making level 3 throws to Jacob Carnrite & Jason Penza for the deep shots downfield. He can also make those level 2 throws putting the ball in the soft spot between the linebackers/safety. What’s most impressive is his ability to make something out of nothing if nobody is open downfield. This is seen with him pulling the ball down to scramble where he can make defenders miss in open space showcasing his elusiveness as well as having the speed to turn the corner on the defense. Jameson Sheehan Jameson Sheehan 6'4" | 195 lbs | QB Cary Grove | 2022 State IL 6’4 200 22′ QB Twitter
Mr. Sheehan has a good frame standing at 6’4 200 which comes in handy when running the ball. In the offense he’s at the helm of, he’s a threat in both the air and ground attack. In the passing game, he can roll out of the pocket to make the throw on the run where he flips his hips to add extra velocity on the ball. In the run game, he isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder to play through contact and keep his feet driving. If you try to arm tackle him, he’s going to run right through it as he plays through the whistle. Junior Season Highlights
Prairie Ridge @ Lake Forest
Jack Schnoor Jack Schnoor 6'3" | 285 lbs | OL Prairie Ridge | 2022 State IL 6’3 280 22′ OL Twitter
Mr. Schnoor gets hands-on to wash the defensive lineman down and makes kick-out blocks to create running lanes for his teammates to run through. He keeps his feet driving resulting in pushing the defender back and gets to 2nd level blocks. The ball carrier runs off his blocks a majority of the time as he opens up running lanes. With the defensive line that LF has, it’s going to be a matchup to keep an eye at the point of attack at the line of scrimmage. Week 1-4 Highlights
Jahari Scott Jahari Scott 5'11" | 175 lbs | RB Lake Forest | 2022 State IL 6’0 175 22′ RB Twitter
Mr. Scott bursts through the line of scrimmage and blows by the 2nd level of defenders with his ability to change gears quickly. He uses his speed to turn the corner and can bounce plays outside. Once the ball is in his hands, he has the ability to break big runs either straight down the middle of the opposing defense or by running outside the tackles. This in turn, swings momentum in favor of LF during their contests – something to keep an eye on during this matchup. Junior Season Highlights
East St. Louis @ Lemont
Ryan Boyd Ryan Boyd 6'0" | 180 lbs | WR Cardinal Ritter | 2023 State MO 6’0 180 23′ WR Twitter
Mr. Boyd is quick off the line of scrimmage where he gains a step on the defender to break him off at the top of the route creating separation. He can also take the top off of the defense where he goes up for 50/50 balls and comes away with contested catches by high pointing the ball. With the focus being heavily on limiting Luther Burden Luther Burden 6'2" | 185 lbs | WR East St Louis | 2022 State IL , it’ll give this young man one on one matchups which he’ll look to take advantage of in the passing game.
Nick Hawkins Nick Hawkins 6'5" | 230 lbs | TE Lemont | 2023 State IL 6’5 225 23′ TE Twitter
Mr. Hawkins can either line up in the slot or on the offensive line, both of which he makes an impact. He’s able to find the soft spot in the defense where he gets upfield upon securing the catch. He’s hard to take down as he can break weak tackles by running through them and will fight for extra yards until the play is over. He can seal the outside linebacker, crack block the defensive end, and drive block the defensive back downfield to create running lanes for his teammates. Regular Season Highlights
Crete-Monee @ Washington Community
Terry Elias Terry Elias 6'0" | 195 lbs | LB Crete Monee | 2022 State IL 5’11 200 22′ LB Twitter
Mr. Elias has an attacking playstyle where he shoots the gaps to meet the ball carrier in the backfield and gets pressure on the quarterback. He has the closing speed to cover sideline to sideline and drives his feet through the tackle in open space. What’s impressive is how he’s also used as the wildcat QB where he’s a downhill runner and keeps his feet driving fighting for extra yards. Mid-Season Highlights
Cade Biedscheid Cade Biedscheid 6'2" | 225 lbs | LB Washington | 2022 State IL 6’2 225 22′ LB Twitter
Mr. Biedscheid is a thumper that attacks downhill once he diagnoses the play resulting in meeting the ball carrier at the line of scrimmage and getting pressure on the quarterback. He gets off blocks to make the tackle and flows to the ball which is going to be important in this matchup as CM has an offensive powerhouse that can break long plays in a heartbeat.
