Chandler @ Hamilton: Defensive Standouts

Both defensive fronts were extremely impressive on the night. This matchup was a division 1 feeding ground with tons of prime talent stacked across the board. Here’s a look at some (of many) defensive standouts of the game: &nbsp; [player_tooltip player_id="42904" first="Chandler" last="Davis"], <em>DL, Hamilton ’23<img class="size-medium wp-image-64677 alignright" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/redzone/uploads/2020/10/IMG_4635-225x300.jpg" alt="" width="225" height="300" /></em> Davis had himself a huge night and came alive in the second half, racking up 3 sacks which included a strip sack in the 4th quarter to set up the go-ahead score for Hamilton. He flashed explosiveness off the ball with quick and athletic hands to establish himself in Chandler's backfield. He showed solid pursuit speed as well to track down Hipa from behind for numerous sacks. A very clutch performance for Davis which should most definitely put him on your radar. &nbsp; [player_tooltip player_id="100647" first="Russell" last="Davis"], <em>DE, Hamilton ’22</em> Another Davis having himself a big game, and another kid who continues to step up on big stages. He also had 3 sacks on the night, along with 4 TFL’s and 9 total tackles. Davis is a dominant pass rusher with numerous tools within his arsenal. He showed the ability to beat opponents off the edge with quickness, bend, violent hands, or power when he utilizes his bull rush. A defensive game changer for Hamilton that projects to continue to play lights out and disrupt everyone they play against in the playoffs. &nbsp; [player_tooltip player_id="165882" first="A’Mauri" last="Washington"], <em>DL, Chandler ’23</em> Washington is a big time prospect on that Chandler defensive line and has been pulling in tons of offers lately, and now I know why. He checks all the boxes as a P5 DT, and was constantly disruptive on Friday night. He did a great job in the first half taking away Hamilton’s inside run. Quick off the snap and possesses violent hands with excellent functional strength to beat opponents in a variety of ways. He moves very well within his 6’5" 295lb frame and will be a massive threat throughout the playoffs and into next season. &nbsp; [player_tooltip player_id="162000" first="Dawson" last="Hubbard"], <em>DL/LB, Hamilton ’22</em> [caption id="attachment_227979" align="alignright" width="300"]<img class="size-medium wp-image-227979" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/redzone/uploads/2021/11/PRZ-Generic-Gray-300x187.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="187" /> Photo: Prep Redzone[/caption] Yet another Hamilton defensive lineman getting it done up front. Hubbard accumulated 2 sacks, 2 TFL’s, 7 total tackles, and a fumble recovery where he scooped it up and returned it down to the Chandler 2 yard line to set up the go-ahead score. He’s explosive off the ball and possesses good power in his lower half to drive opponents backward. He shows solid play rec and flashes the ability to split gaps and disrupt the run. Impressive performance from Hubbard. &nbsp; [player_tooltip player_id="42840" first="Jacob" last="Holmes"], <em>DL, Chandler ’22</em> Chandler’s defensive stats aren’t listed, but Holmes had himself a night and it seemed like he stuck his nose in every play. He’s explosive off the ball to win immediately off the LOS, and possesses violent hands with lateral mobility to give himself room to work when needed. Holmes is strong at the POA and possesses a big striking ability if he can get squared up. Plays nasty and is a flat out nightmare along that Chandler DL, and recently committed to Tulane.
