Every program in the country looks Georgia’s way for QB talent, and the peach state has plenty of young talent on the way.
Here are a few 2024 QBs to know in Georgia that could be household names next year….
Aaron Philo – Prince Avenue Christian
One of the top young QBs in the state, Philo had some big shoes to fill this year as he tried to replace former All-American Brock Vandagriff, but Philo more than held his own this year as a sophomore, leading the state in passing for the 2024 class. The 6-foot-2 175-pounder was excellent all season, throwing for 3,054 yards and 35 touchdowns. The Athens native also rushed for 5 more touchdowns on the season. He looks the part for his age and he showed off his arm talent all season long. More importantly, he’s led the Wolverines to a 10-1 record. Look for him to receive some D1 interest down the road.
Another breakout player in Middle Georgia, the small-town athlete was excellent for the Wildcats this season, leading them to a 10-1 record so far with a big game this weekend against undefeated Metter. A true pocket passer with a raw, talent arm, Kanazawa knows how to sling it around, consistently throwing for over 200 yards a game. He’s a smart QB who makes the right reads and gets the ball out quickly to his playmakers. He was efficient and careful with the football, and he’s only going to get better and better.
Jaxon Pate – Sonoraville
Another small-town QB, Pate is a North Georgia standout who had a really productive sophomore season. The dual-threat QB and Calhoun native did everything asked of him this year and proved that he could beat teams with both his arms and with his feet. A solid athlete at 6-foot-0 160-pounds, Pate threw for just under 2,200 yards and 24 touchdowns on the season. As a runner, Pate took off 90 times for over 650 yards and 7 more touchdowns. He deserves some recognition after a strong sophomore season.
Jake Merklinger Jake Merklinger 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Calvary Day | 2024 State GA – Calvary Day
One of the top young sophomores in Savannah, Merklinger has a breakout year as a sophomore, showing really impressive poise and accuracy for someone his age. He completed just under 72% of his passes this year, and impressive number for anyone, much less a young sophomore. He made good decisions with the ball, throwing for 23 touchdowns to just 6 INTs. He commanded the offense and ran it well all season. leading Calvary Day to an undefeated season so far. He’s also added 243 rushing yards and 9 more touchdowns.
Neko Fann – Colquit County
Colquitt County is one of the biggest and well-known programs in Georgia, and it appears like they have their QB for the next two seasons. Fann had a big sophomore season for the Packers this year, showing his big arm and ability to lead an offense. He took care of the ball very well for a young player, tossing 29 TDs to just 5 INTs. He’s someone who played better and better as the season went on, and as his arm continues to develop, Fann’s stock will continue to rise. He’ll be one of the top South Georgia QBs heading into the 2022 season next year.
