Plenty of young defensive backs are starting to stand out, and the 2024 class appears to be just as deep as recent classes.
Here are some of the top interception leaders to know about in the 2024 class…
Carson Westbrook – Schley County
Westrbook is a small-town defensive back who has been picking passes off all season. A smaller, tougher safety, Westbrook has been a ball-hawk this season, picking off five passes, the most across the state for any sophomore. He tracks the ball well in the air and knows how to make a play on it when he’s around. He secures the ball well and always finds himself in a position to make a big play. He’s also made 49 tackles and recovered three fumbles .
Jalewis Solomon – Schley County
Already one of the biggest playmakers in Middle Georgia, Solomon is just a sophomore and making a giant impact on both sided of the football. One of the more impressive two-way players in the entire state this season, Solomon is a big-play waiting to happen at receiver with his 49 catches for 788 yards and 12 touchdowns. Defensively, the 6-foot-1 180-pounder has been a lockdown defensive back, making 20 total tackles and picking off four passes so far this season. His instincts, ball skills, and overall quickness stand out immediately. He’s recently earned offers from Georgia and LSU with many more likely on the way.
JD Casteen – Creekview
The Grizzlies are off to an impressive 7-2 record this season and a big reason why is because of their defense. A big standout defender this season has been Casteen, who has really shined as linebacker this year. You won’t find him on social media, but you can see him making plays at Creekview on Friday nights. He may only be a sophomore, but the playmaking defender has played like a veteran this fall, making 51 total tackles and intercepting four passes. He’s smart, instinctive, and just has a knack for finding the football and making plays.
Khaleed Latimore – Monroe Area
Don’t let his size fool you. This Athens-area defensive back plays bigger than his 5-foot-8 150-pound frame. He’s tough, knows how to get off blocks in the run game, and does a nice job of finding the football in coverage. He’s already making plays as a sophomore and it appears his best football is still ahead of him. He’s picked off four passes this season, and when he has the ball, he’s looking to run. He’s quick, shows good closing speed, and is a young 2024 defensive back to know for the future.
Jordan Green – Mount de Sales Academy
One of the top young defensive backs in Macon, Green has stepped up this year as a sophomore, making lots of plays in the secondary. A two-sport star who also shines on the baseball diamond, Green is consistently one of the top athletes on the field and has made a giant impact in the secondary. So far this season, Green has madd 38 tackles, intercepted four passes, deflected five more passes, and has forced two fumbles. He’s a playmaking defender to know about in Macon moving forward.
