This was an up and down game for the senior QB. The Illinois commit showcased all of his physical talents, by looking to push the ball down the field consistently. He placed a wide range of throws on display some good and some not so great. First, he threw two deep shots which showcased his arm talent. Showing the arm strength to get the throw out there, but it was overthrown. Also threw another 20+ yard pass that was thrown into double coverage that could have been picked. In addition, he also showcased some very good throws. On his first touchdown pass, he scrambled left while escaping pressure and delivered an accurate throw. On another beautiful throw, he stood tall in the pocket and delivered a nice ball between zone defenders for key third-down conversion. [player_tooltip player_id="27971" first="Donovan" last="Leary"] has many tools to work with; if he can keep working on his footwork and improve his downfield accuracy his best football could be ahead of him.

The most impressive part of his game is his ability to run in a variety of ways. At 5’8 160 many would think that he’s not able to run between the tackles, but he can. Forcing six missed tackles after contact and gaining many yards above expectation. He also possesses the speed and burst to get through open holes quickly and the speed to beat defenders to the edge.
