I decided to attend the game at Darnell Tully Stadium where The Stratford Spartans(6-0) played against The Spring Woods Tigers(3-3). The Stratford Spartans was dominating all night long. Starting very early on with Stratford scoring three touchdowns in the 1st two minutes. Spring Wood Tigers couldn’t do a single thing against The Stratford Spartans. They were no match against their offense or defense. The final score was a whooping 52-0 with The Stratford Spartans staying undefeated. The Stratford Spartans had standouts on both sides of the ball. I’ll be discussing the defensive standouts.
#44 Cooper King MLB Jr 5’10 200 lbs
Cooper King is a phenomenal middle linebacker. Cooper was very aggressive he didn’t make a lot of tackles, but he knows how to apply pressure. Cooper is a heavy blitzer he doesn’t wait for the action to come to him Cooper goes to it. Cooper caused Spring Woods quarterback to panic dozen of times forcing him to throw the ball away or throw interceptions.
#91 Austin Larue DE, DT Jr 6’2 260 lbs
Their were two defensive linemen that were always in the backfield and one of them was #91 Austin Larue. Austin could play either defensive tackle or defensive end. Austin had the dexterity to play both especially with his size and quickness. Spring Woods offensive line couldn’t hold him not letting their quarterback a chance to breath. Austin was even able to get a sack and contributed in stopping the majority of the run plays. Austin dexterity, strength, quickness, and finesse make him a standout defensive lineman I’m expecting more progress out of him in his junior and senior year.
#90 Hunter Jones DT Jr 6’2 200 lbs
The other defensive lineman in the backfield was defensive tackle Hunter Jones. Hunter knows how to get off his block and swim move into the backfield. With Hunter and Austin both penetrating down the middle they were an unstoppable duo. Hunter is quick and fast off the ball these are his standout qualities Stratford has a great defensive line with him on it.
#24 Charles Mackey CB, WR Sr 5’10 160 lbs
A great cornerback is #24 Charles Mackey. Charles was able to properly cover his man and didn’t allow much of any space between them. Charles didn’t allow any passes come through him. If any passes did come his way it was either blocked or intercepted by him. Charles also has good tackling form I know all defensive players should, but having good textbook form targeting the waist and properly wrapping up really stands out to me.
#97 Ahmed Halawe DL Sr
Ahmed Halawe is another standout defensive lineman. Ahmed wasn’t as dynamic and strong as Austin and Hunter, but he stood out in his own way. Ahmed had his fair share of strength and speed being able to bat off Spring Woods blockers and pursue the ball. Ahmed was even able to deflect a pass on 3rd down making Spring Wood punt the ball.
