Week 7 Preview: York and Lancaster Counties

Can you believe it’s already Week 7 of the SC high school football season in York and Lancaster County? We are entering week two of region play with some teams on a hot streak and trying to solidify themselves as leaders and continue to build for when they will face the more tougher region opponents, while others are trying to avoid getting behind the 8 ball in their region. Catawba Ridge (3-3 overall, 0-1 region) at York (4-1 overall, 1-0 region) York is on a roll right now, sitting at No. 8 in this week’s statewide media poll after last week’s defeat of previously unbeaten Indian Land. The defense is allowing only 14.6 points per game and linebackers [player_tooltip player_id="91189" first="Mekayle" last="Burris"]<a href="https://twitter.com/k8_Officiall"> (@k8_Officiall)</a> and [player_tooltip player_id="200766" first="Ashton" last="Eddington"] <a href="https://twitter.com/ashton_19">(@ashton_19)</a> are part of the reason why. Catawba Ridge has lost 3 of their last 4 contests and can’t afford to drop two region contests in a row, so this a huge test for them. QB [player_tooltip player_id="91362" first="Jadyn" last="Davis"] (pictured above) <a href="https://twitter.com/iamjadyndavis">(@iamjadyndavis)</a> and WR [player_tooltip player_id="201152" first="Trevor" last="Testerman"] <a href="https://twitter.com/Testerman2022">(@Testerman2022)</a> will look to keep their connection <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2021/10/what-we-saw-stallions-rally-in-4th-quarter-to-beat-catawba-ridge/">from last week against South Pointe going.</a> A question for the Copperheads is will they be able to get the run game going with RB Tyler Jones <a href="https://twitter.com/TylerJones14_">(@TylerJones14_)</a> effectively? Fort Mill (1-4 overall, 0-1 region) at Clover (1-3 overall, 0-0 region) This game is intriguing because Clover had two of their games in September cancelled because of COVID-19, lost to Rock Hill in their last game and had a BYE last week and come into tomorrow’s matchup riding a three game losing streak. Fort Mill, on the other hand, fell to Nation Ford 35-0 last week after ending a two-year losing streak. Ok, did you catch all of that? Something has to give on Friday evening at Clover Memorial Stadium. Coach Brian Lane’s squad will look to get the passing game going with QB [player_tooltip player_id="202766" first="Joe" last="Boyd"] <a href="https://twitter.com/JoeBoyd123">(@JoeBoyd123)</a>. Don’t be surprised if DB [player_tooltip player_id="89317" first="Jy" last="Martin"] <a href="https://twitter.com/jymartin_">(@jymartin_)</a> gets a look at receiver with his athleticism, like he did against Rock Hill. The Yellow Jackets’ defense, led by UNC-Charlotte commit [player_tooltip player_id="59497" first="Marcus" last="Boston Brinkley"] and DE [player_tooltip player_id="118721" first="Miller" last="Shouse"] <a href="https://twitter.com/ShouseMiller">(@ShouseMiller)</a> will look to get pressure on Boyd. WR J.J. Ogwal <a href="https://twitter.com/jj_ogwal">(@jj_ogwal)</a> figures to have an impact as well. South Pointe (4-1 overall, 1-0 region) at Lancaster (2-1 overall, 1-0 region) WR Waymond Jenerette <a href="https://twitter.com/WaymondJeneret3">(@WaymondJeneret3) </a>came up with the game sealing interception last week in a thriller over Catawba Ridge as the Stallions kicked off region play. Now the Stallions will head to Lancaster County to take on the Bruins. DE A.J. Miller <a href="https://twitter.com/Ajmiller92">(@Ajmiller92)</a> will look to continue his strong play against what we think could be a down hill rushing attack. WR Demari Kendrick <a href="https://twitter.com/KendrickDemari">(@KendrickDemari)</a> showed the ability last week to stretch the field vertically, but will he be able to do it against Lancaster this week? Boiling Springs (0-6 overall, 0-1 region) at Nation Ford (3-3 overall, 1-0 region) Boiling Springs has been struggling in 2021 and they head up I-85 to face a surging Nation Ford team, who is starting to find their rhythm at the right time, in region play. WRs Quadeir Hand <a href="https://twitter.com/Quadeir3">(@Quadeir3)</a> and Jerrick have been two key components to the Falcons finding that rhythm on offense along with QB [player_tooltip player_id="91150" first="Carson" last="Black"]. We don’t believe they’ll have any problem with the Bulldogs on either side of the ball. Blythewood (3-2 overall, 0-0 region) at Northwestern (6-1 overall, 1-0 region) QB [player_tooltip player_id="89316" first="Will" last="Mattison"] <a href="https://twitter.com/Will1Mattison">(@Will1Mattison)</a> and the Trojans offense led 21-0 at the end of the first quarter and never looked back last week, putting up their highest output of the season at 56 points against Ridge View. The defense continues to stifle opponents as DB [player_tooltip player_id="122015" first="Michael" last="McMullen"] <a href="https://twitter.com/MMcMullen_">(@MMcMullen_)</a> had an interception and DE William Monroe <a href="https://twitter.com/WillMonroe33">(@WillMonroe33)</a> had a sack last week. You can expect this to continue on Friday night against the visitors from the Midlands.
