Players of the Week
Kelton Turner Kelton Turner 5'10" | ATH Meeker | 2022 State CO , Meeker Cowboys (RB)(Sr.)(22) – Turner easily had the most dominant rushing performance of any player from week 7. In the Cowboys 30-13 win over the North Fork Miners, Turner accounted for 256 yards on 19 carries (13.5 ypc) and 3 touchdowns. He also added 14 tackles on defense, in addition to his offensive output. When you watch Turner on film, you can see that Turner displays an explosive, one-cut running style. Highly explosive athlete that has more than enough foot-speed to also act as a tough matchup in man coverage for 2nd and 3rd level defenders. Displays an innate ability to catch the football while having adequate ability as a route runner out of the backfield or lined up out wide. Elusive runner with enough toughness and physicality to finish runs driving his legs through contact, as well as the ability to easily run through arm tackles by 1st and 2nd level defenders. Turner isn’t a well known name in recruiting circles because of the level of competition Meeker plays at, but he’ll certainly be looking to finish his last season with the Cowboys strong.
Collin Reetz Collin Reetz 6'6" | 190 lbs | QB Estes Park | 2022 State CO , Estes Park Bobcats (QB)(Sr.)(4) – Reetz was by far and away the state’s top passer from week 7, going 29 of 46 (63%) for 447 yards, an eye-popping 6 touchdowns, and a QBR of 116.6 in the Bobcats’ 46-22 win over the Roaring Fork Rams. Reetz also added 30 yards and a touchdown on the ground for good measure. On film, Reetz is a tall, long-armed pocket passer with enough mobility to move around in the pocket and extend time to find a receiver down field. Smooth, over-the-top release that allows him to avoid having balls batted at the line by DL. Strong armed thrower that can get enough on his deep throws to stretch the defense and put pressure on deep defenders. Savvy, intelligent QB that understands where the throwing windows in underneath zone coverage are and where to find his receivers sitting in those windows. Adequate processing speed, as he displays the requisite ability to go through his progressions in a quick and timely manner. Reetz is currently rated the number 12 QB in the state for the class of 2022 and looks to build off his stellar play from last week as we round out the season.
Jose Gonzalez, Estes Park Bobcats (WR)(So.)(2) – Collin Reetz Collin Reetz 6'6" | 190 lbs | QB Estes Park | 2022 State CO was the leading passer from week 7, so it’s only appropriate that his favorite target in last week’s win over the Rams was the state’s top receiver. On the night, Gonzalez accounted for 208 yards on 10 receptions (20.8 YPR) and 4 touchdowns, while also adding 8 tackles and an interception on defense. When you turn on the tape, you can see that Gonzalez displays a fearless nature when catching short and intermediate passes over the middle or through traffic despite his smaller size, often taking a significant shot but still maintaing his concentration on the ball. Elusive runner after the catch that displays a good ability to find daylight in the open field. Great athleticism and foot speed to routinely separate against less athletic defenders. Strong, consistent hands that are reliable when the offense needs a tough catch, often in the red zone and short yardage situations. Requisite route running ability that paired with his reliable hands and ability after the catch, make him a lethal matchup out of the slot. The sophomore receiver doesn’t currently have a ranking in the class of 2024, just because of how early it still is for the class. With that being said, if Gonzalez continues to show-out like he did last Friday, he’ll be a name to watch for the class of 2024.
