It’s just the second Friday in October but we can already start talking about region titles. Camden and Lower Richland can secure the top spots in their respective regions with victories this week. There are several other games with region implications as well.
There are also a couple of games that will be a showcase for highly ranked players. Here is a list of six of the top games in the Midlands area.
<strong>Camden (5-2, 2-0) at Marlboro County (1-3, 0-2) </strong>
Camden has a chance to earn the No. 1 spot in Region -3A with a win. The Bulldogs have had to overcome the loss of quarterback <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="153230" first="Cauthen" last="Best"]</strong> to a season-ending injury. They have turned to sophomore <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="139311" first="Grayson" last="White"]</strong> and senior <strong>Katrez Bracey</strong> behind center. White, sophomore <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="139303" first="Cortez" last="Lane"]</strong> and junior <strong>Davonte McCray</strong> each have over 200 yards rushing with a combined 12 TDs. Senior <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="153231" first="Anthony" last="Lyles"]</strong> is the top wide receiver with 28 receptions for 331 yards. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="89338" first="Xzavier" last="McLeod"]</strong>, <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="61078" first="Tevin" last="Eley"]</strong>, <strong>DeAmonte Halley</strong> and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="91233" first="Jonathan" last="Chavis"]</strong> lead a talented defense. Marlboro County has struggled offensively and are averaging just 17 points a game in region.
<strong>Dutch Fork (5-0, 1-0) at Chapin (4-1, 0-0)</strong>
This game will have several players that will play on the next level. Dutch Fork has a trio of offensive players that get the most attention. Senior <strong>Davin Patterson</strong> has thrown for 965 yards and 13 TDs and running back <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="91136" first="Jarvis" last="Green"]</strong> is averaging 10.7 yards a carry in rushing for 633 yards this year. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="61070" first="Antonio" last="Williams"]</strong> has added 26 receptions for 620 yards and seven TDs. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="200729" first="Nick" last="Sowell"] </strong>is the second-leading receiver with 15 catches for 196 yards and four TDs. Defensively, <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="91235" first="CJ" last="Wicker"]</strong> has 47 tackles and eight tackles for loss. <strong>Landon Danley</strong> has 31 tackles and two interceptions. Chapin can answer with a very strong trio on offense as well. Sophomore <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="139289" first="Jayden" last="Bradford"]</strong> has thrown for 750 yards and 10 touchdowns. Receiver <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="59482" first="Zavier" last="Short"]</strong> and running back <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="89315" first="Bennett" last="Galloway"]</strong> have each scored on the ground, receiving and special teams. Defensive end <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="204427" first="Max" last="Drag"]</strong> will lead the Chapin defensive charge.
<strong>Fairfield Central (4-2, 1-1) at Chester (3-3, 1-1)</strong>
This will be a battle for likely the No. 2 spot in Region 4-3A. Senior <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="91203" first="Stephon" last="Gadsden"]</strong> leads Fairfield Central with 355 rushing and six touchdowns to go along with 633 passing yards and five scores. <strong>CJ Sampson</strong>, <strong>Josh Green</strong> and <strong>Stephano Watkins</strong> lead the defense. Chester leans on the running and passing of <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="59469" first="Zan" last="Dunham"]</strong>. He has accounted for 451 yards through the air and 485 yards on the ground. <strong>Malik McCullough</strong> has added 454 yards rushing. Sophomore linebacker <strong>Antonio Hopkins</strong> leads the team with 60 tackles.
<strong>Lower Richland (5-1, 2-0) at Mid-Carolina (1-2, 0-1)</strong>
Lower Richland can secure the No. 1 seed in Region 4-3A with a win. <strong>Robert Adams</strong> has thrown for 765 yards and seven touchdowns. <strong>Lamarion Pearson</strong> is the leading rusher with 572 and five TDs, but <strong>Jeremy Barney</strong> has scored 10 touchdowns with 437 yards on the ground. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="202736" first="Nate" last="Branch"]</strong> is the leading receiver with 15 catches for 365 yards and five scores. <strong>Jefferson Watson</strong> and <strong>Ronnie Lee</strong> lead a defense that has allowed seven points or less in four games this season.
<strong>Spring Valley (4-1, 1-0) at Ridge View (2-3, 0-1)</strong>
Spring Valley has only allowed more than 10 points in a game once this season with two shutouts. Linebackers <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="153240" first="Mondell" last="Hutto"]</strong>, <strong>Jameer Toney</strong> and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="202737" first="David" last="Wilson"]</strong>, safety <strong>Devin Martin</strong>, and defensive lineman <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="153274" first="Ky" last="Tayo"]</strong> lead the strong defensive effort. Ridge View has a high-powered offense but has lost three in a row. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="153263" first="Andre" last="Washington"]</strong> has thrown for 994 yards and 10 touchdowns. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="202775" first="Zion" last="Agnew"]</strong> leads the team with five touchdown catches.
<strong>White Knoll (0-1, 1-5) at Lexington (5-1, 1-0)</strong>
Lexington has won five in a row with three of the wins coming by a combined 6 points. <strong>Tyler Walker</strong> and <strong>Keshawn Gladden</strong> have filled in nicely at running back while sophomore <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="208887" first="Taiden" last="Mines"]</strong> has played well at quarterback. <strong>Blake Smith</strong>, <strong>Reese Waites,</strong> and <strong>Hagin Whetstone</strong> lead the Wildcats on defense. <strong>Jaquez Frederick</strong> is the top running back for White Knoll. <strong>Landon Sharpe</strong> and <strong>Austin Cunningham</strong> have split time at quarterback. <strong>Nate Thomas</strong> is the top receiver. <strong>Chase Rivers</strong> and <strong>Marcus Domenech</strong> are the top defenders for the Timberwolves defense.
