Houston high school football is a halfway through the season. Week six had a great game of the week Friday night probably the best game in the whole season. Both teams went into this game undefeated. The Spring Lions(4-1) faced off against The Westfield Mustangs(5-0). Both teams are highly ranked in Houston and highly ranked in the whole state of Texas. The game started out with Westfield dominating Spring before the 2nd half. However, Spring kicked it up a notch in the 2nd half and almost caught up with Westfield. The final score was 31-21 with The Westfield Mustangs being victorious. Even though, The Spring Lions lost the game they still had a lot of offensive standouts.

#4 Bralen Martin WR Sr 5’11

The Spring Lions was a passing heavy team and Bralen Martin is a great wide receiver for this kind of team. Whenever, The Spring Lions offense was in a pinch they threw the ball to Martin. Martin is quick and fast and the boy has some mitten on him. I rarely saw Martin drop or miss a catch and if he did it was because it was a bad pass. Martin ended the night with six receptions, 106 receiving yards and two touchdown passes.

#7 Myron Carter FS, SS, RB Sr 5’10 185 lbs

For The Spring Lions being a passing heavy team running back Myron Carter didn’t get a lot of chances to run the ball. However, when he did Carter definitely made an impact. I can tell by the 1st time Carter got the ball how fast he was. Carter was able to zoom pass Westfield Mustangs’ defense and get yards. Carter was also able to throw the ball if it was needed. Carter was the quarterback once for a reversal play. Carter for that one play threw a 10 yard touchdown. Myron has committed to the University of New Mexico to play football this upcoming fall.

#5 Bishop Davenport QB Sr 6’3 190 lbs

The Spring Lions offense was dependent on one man the quarterback Bishop Davenport. Davenport is an adequate quarterback he made a couple mistakes early on, but overall he was able to pick up his offense and make a lot of great plays. Davenport was an elusive and mobile quarterback most of his great passes happened while he was under pressure and scrambling. Davenport wasn’t afraid to get physical and ran the ball when it was necessary. Davenport is a college prospect having a ton offers from big name colleges and universities from; Prairie View A&M University, University of Tulsa, Utah State University, Sam Houston State University, Lamar University, Texas Southern University, and many others. Davenport decided to commit to Utah State University. Davenport ended the night with 360 passing yards and two touchdowns passes.

#1 Isiaiah Johnson WR Sr 5’7 150 lbs

Isiaiah Johnson is yet another fast wide receiver. Johnson is quite fast he was nearly untouchable. Isiaiah knew how to cut up down field and get open for passes. Isiaiah ended the night with four receptions and 68 receiving yards.

#11 Travis Sims WR Sr

All of The Spring Lions wide receivers stood out to me just like Travis Sims. Sims had a great night The Westfield Mustangs had trouble covering him. Sims was always fast enough to beat the opposing cornerback and even when he didn’t get the ball Sims supported by blocking. Sims speed definitely makes him stand out he’ll get more recognition throughout his senior year of football. Sims ended the night with six receptions and 108 receiving yards.
