We’re seeing some of the same names pop up each week as multiple gunslingers are putting up “video game” type of numbers through the first 8 weeks of the season. The 5-stars are playing like it and under the radar QBs continue to prove the doubters wrong.
Here are some of the top QB performances through week 8…
Gunner Stockton Gunner Stockton 6'1" | 220 lbs | QB Rabun County | 2022 State GA – Rabun County
In a record-breaking performance, Stockton etched his name in Georgia football history as he set the career state touchdown record in a 45-14 win over Grovetown. Stockton has been exceptional all season, and saved his best performance for Friday night. Not only did he break the state record Friday night, but he threw for 5 touchdowns and rushed for one more. He rushed for the first score of the night and added three more passing TDs in the first half alone. He’d toss two more TDs in the second half as the Wildcats cruised to victory. He buys time in the pocket well and is always looking downfield for an open receiver. He hits the open man consistently and loves the chuck the ball deep. He’s had a magical career, and there’s still time to add to the record books this season.
Tyler Hughes Tyler Hughes 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB Marietta | 2022 State GA – Marietta
One of the biggest breakout players in the entire state, The Marietta Blue Devil senior has been unstoppable all season long. The Blue Devils came up just short against North Paulding this past weekend, but Hughes once again put on a monster performance. The dynamic dual-threat QB did just about everything he wanted on Friday night, throwing for 469 yards and 4 TDs. He also added 113 yards rushing and another score. He dominated in every way, but they just couldn’t get enough stops on defense. He showed great patience and footwork in the pocket and had a number of dimes down the field. He leads an explosive offense and that was on full display Friday night as Hughes had TD passes of 80, 60, and 34 yards. It hasn’t been an ideal start for the Blue Devils overall, but Hughes has been absolutely terrific both as a passer and a runner this year.
David Dallas David Dallas 6'0" | 200 lbs | QB Trinity Christian | 2022 State GA – Trinity Christian
Only a three-star prospect, Dallas has been playing above his ranking all year so far as a senior. The Western Michigan commit is one of the more productive senior QBs in the Atlanta area and he has his eyes set on another state championship appearance. If he continues to play like he did Friday night, Trinity Christian will be there in the end. In his biggest game of the season, leading Trinity Christian to an impressive 63-14 win over Whitefield Academy, Dallas went 22/27 for 421 yards and five touchdown tosses. He was deadly accurate in the redzone and hit his targets in the hands on a consistent basis. He throws with zip when he needs too, but he can throw with touch as well. He stood strong in the pocket Friday night and was able to shred the opposing defense throughout the night. He’s a true leader as a senior, and along with brother Josh Dallas, the two are looking to lead their squad to a special season.
Reece Fountain Reece Fountain 6'1" | 175 lbs | QB Rome | 2024 State GA – Rome
The Northwest Georgia native one of the nation’s top young QBs in the 2024 class and he had his best game of the season this past Friday night in a big 48-7 win over East Paulding. Fountain led a successful Rome offense and lit up the stat sheet in the big win. The 6-foot-0 175-pounder was an efficient 17/21 for 440 yards and 5 touchdowns. When he threw the ball, it went for a big gain. The sophomore hit receiver Martel Height on a beautiful strike down the field early in the game that went for an 80-yard score. He got the ball out to his receivers quickly, and many times, they would take off for a big gain. He also pushed the ball downfield, hitting receiver Patrick Cromer for a big 49-yard touchdown in the 3rd quarter. Overall, Fountain and the Wolves offense are clicking, and they have a chance to make a deep playoff run later this fall.
