The regular season in the Philadelphia Catholic League is drawing close to an end. I wanted to catch those up on who has been performing well to close out the year. This piece will cover the Red division and highlight multiple athletes from each team. Everyone deserves love.
We will shine light on whoever earns it, regardless of stars, offers, and class.
<p style="text-align: center;"><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Archbishop Wood</strong></span></em></p>
<em><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="27741" first="James" last="Bermudez"] | 5’11, 190 | RB | 2023</strong></em>
<em><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="164150" first="Mekhi" last="Wharton"] | 6’5, 205 | QB | 2024</strong></em>
<em><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="140897" first="Gilbert" last="Kinsey"] | 6’4, 185 | WR | 2022</strong></em>
Stud running back [player_tooltip player_id="27741" first="James" last="Bermudez"] finally broke out for a 100+ yard game against Roman Catholic, a game in which he found the endzone as well. The junior back leads ABW in rushing with 415 yards on 78 carries through 7 games.
[player_tooltip player_id="164150" first="Mekhi" last="Wharton"] is seeing his playing time and reps increase steadily as we move along the season. After seeing him live against Malvern Prep, Wharton went off for 4 touchdowns last week against Father Judge. 8/9, 170 yards, and 4 touchdowns will help his case to start in the future. I’m sure he’s happy helping the Vikings win games any way he can.
[player_tooltip player_id="140897" first="Gilbert" last="Kinsey"] is a kid I was high on. He’s been picking things up lately, hauling in 5 passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns this past two weeks.
<p style="text-align: center;"><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>LaSalle College Prep</strong></span></em></p>
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="27560" first="Samuel" last="Brown"] V | 6’3, 200 | RB /ATH | 2022</strong>
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="99376" first="Sean" last="McFadden"] | 6’0, 200 | ATH | 2023</strong>
[player_tooltip player_id="27560" first="Samuel" last="Brown"], possibly the best player in all of the PCL, continues to shed defenses, now putting up his largest outputs on back-to-back weeks. Somehow, his stock continues to rise, not sure how much higher it can get. His game against SJP: 16 att, 123 yards, 2 TD’s, and 1 catch for 32 yards. His game against Roman: 21 att, 157 yards, and one score. This kid is on fire.
Showing [player_tooltip player_id="99376" first="Sean" last="McFadden"] some love here, where the obvious [player_tooltip player_id="27556" first="Abdul" last="Carter"]’s and [player_tooltip player_id="140975" first="Darold" last="Dengohe"]’s could shine. Behind those two studs is [player_tooltip player_id="99376" first="Sean" last="McFadden"], who is third on the team in tackles with 33. He’s also second on the great LaSalle defense with four passes deflections on the year.
<p style="text-align: center;"><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Father Judge</strong></span></em></p>
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="178646" first="Mike" last="Conway"] | 6’2, 225 | LB/TE | 2022</strong>
Film out of Father Judge continues to be a struggle, one that I hope ends sooner rather than later. One kid who continues to impress is [player_tooltip player_id="178646" first="Mike" last="Conway"]. He is still leading the way in tackles for FJ, by a wide margin. He is consistently involved in the run game. 29 solo tackles, 14 assists for 43 total tackles on the year.
<p style="text-align: center;"><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>St. Joe’s Prep</strong></span></em></p>
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="98507" first="Omillio" last="Agard"] | 5’11, 170 | DB | 2024</strong>
<strong>Cole Nilles | 6’2, 225 | LB | 2023</strong>
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="146677" first="James" last="Heard"] | 6’2, 225 | DL | 2023</strong>
[player_tooltip player_id="98507" first="Omillio" last="Agard"] has been great all season long, his play statistically is starting to ramp up. Agard came up with a great pick this past weekend which notches his interception total to two on the year. Anytime this kid gets a pass thrown at him, it’s a surprise to me. SJP will need his stellar season to continue.
A new name to the site is Cole Nilles. This kid is second to [player_tooltip player_id="27736" first="Josiah" last="Trotter"] on the tackle leaderboards, notching 19 solo tackles and 2 assists on the year. The kid doesn’t get enough light, as he has also recorded 8 TFL’s on the year and 4 sacks.
Speaking of sacks, the new name along that defensive line wants his name to be mentioned alongside all of the great pass-rushers PA has to offer. That’s [player_tooltip player_id="146677" first="James" last="Heard"], who may be the best pure pass-rusher in the state outside of a few names. 6.5 sacks in 5 games. 10 TFL’s. He can beat you with speed and/or power.
<p style="text-align: center;"><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Roman Catholic</strong></span></em></p>
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="141010" first="Tyseer" last="Denmark"] | 5’11, 180 | ATH | 2024</strong>
<strong>Mao Howell | ATH/RB | 2023</strong>
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="142809" first="Jonathan" last="Ingram"] | 6’0, 175 | QB | 2024</strong>
[player_tooltip player_id="141010" first="Tyseer" last="Denmark"] is leaving his mark on the PCL right now and he’s doing it in a multitude of ways. He’s proving that his talent is that of any player in the entire state. Denmark has been dominating great defenses with his incredible overall athleticism. Doesn’t matter where he is on the field, he can beat you. Wildcat QB, using his legs to win, or at wideout, where he may be the most polished and further-along route runner in his class. 408 rushing yards on the year, matched with 497 receiving yards. Both are leading the Cahillites. The sophomore has accounted for 100 points in seven games, nine touchdowns in the last three games. He’s going off.
I love Mao Howell’s game. He’s been consistent all year long, tallying 395 yards on the ground on 78 attempts.
Much has been made of the quarterback position at Roman, I don’t think it needs further questioning after the performance [player_tooltip player_id="142809" first="Jonathan" last="Ingram"] put out this past week. 11 for 17, 231 yards, and one touchdown. His stock is back up.
