No matter how old you are or what class you’re in, if you can play, you’re going to start hearing from colleges. There are plenty of underclassmen making plays for big programs across the state, showing how deep and talented the state of Georgia is on an annual basis.
We’re starting to see some impressive 2023 prospects start to see their stock rise, and Prep Redzone has the details…
Ethan Davis Ethan Davis 6'5" | 200 lbs | TE Collins Hill | 2023 State GA – TE/WR – Collins Hill
One of the breakout juniors in Gwinnett County, Davis has seen his stock rise more and more each week with star receiver Travis Hunter Travis Hunter 6'1" | 165 lbs | ATH Collins Hill | 2022 State GA out. Davis has been able to see more balls come his way as a result and he’s taken advantage of it in a big way. Davis is a lean athlete at 6-foot-5 and already holds major offers from LSU, Georgia, among others. He’s been a go-to option for Collins Hill and he’s been productive for the last few weeks. He has big hands and due to his size, he can be a giant mismatch on defenders in the middle of the field. He’s great after the catch and getting better and better each game. So far, Davis has 34 receptions for 419 yards and three touchdowns. He earned an offer from Missouri this week and more and expected to flow in over the next few weeks and months.

Jalen Smith – Linebacker – Grayson
Another standout Grayson Ram, Smith has tackled just about everything in sight this season, making 108 tackles, leading the team as a junior. He’s a quick-reacting linebacker who closes well on the ball carrier. He’s instinctive and has a true nose for the football. He roams the field at middle linebacker and shows quickness and burst to the ball. He’s a sure tackler and can by physical in the run game. He’s also reliable in coverage, giving him an opportunity to make plays in a number of different ways. In addition to his 108 tackles, Smith has 3 TFLs, 4 sacks, and 5 QB hurries. He picked up a recent offer from Purdue and more could be on the way shortly.

Jayden Ponder – RB – Allatoona
Up towards Northwest Georgia is where you’ll find an up and coming junior on the rise. Allatoona’s junior back has seen his stock rise more and more each week. He may not be the biggest or fastest back out there, but he’s productive and proving that he can carry the load. He’s a lead back who can wear down defenses with his slippery running style and he knows how to finish runs strong. He’s averaged 100 yards per game through the team’s first six and rushed for over 100 yards in four of his first six games. He’s tough, reliable, and seems to get better by the week. He’s a 2023 back to know in the area.
Ethan Mackenny – OL – Lassiter
You don’t see many two-way players on the line these days, but the junior Trojan has the ability to do so. A big-framed lineman at 6-foot-4 270-pounds, Mackenny is a physical offensive tackle who knows how to drive the defender backwards. He’s long, shows decent footwork, and can overpower smaller edge defenders. He’ll still need to add more weight and mass over the next year or so, but he’s a good-looking young prospect having an excellent junior season. He recently earned an offer from Kansas and holds other offers from App State, Boston College, Louisville, among others.
Peyton Streko Peyton Streko 5'10" | 190 lbs | RB West Forsyth | 2023 State GA – RB – West Forsyth
The West Forsyth junior back was having a breakout season before getting injured in the middle of the season, but even playing in just a few games, Streko put everyone on notice. The speedster had a breakout game against 7A Walton where he rushed for over 200 yards and scored 6 total touchdowns. He’s quick, shifty, shows great burst, and runs with incredible balance. He’s tough enough to break tackles on his own, but his burst, versatility, and big-play ability has gained the interest of Georgia Southern. They invited Streko for a visit this weekend and an offer would not be surprising. Look for more schools to start to show interest in Streko moving forward.
