They’re playing against The St. Thomas Eagles on Friday. St. Pius X (3-4) and St. Thomas (6-2) have always had a heated rivalry whenever they play against each other it’s called “Showdown on Shepherd.” This has always been a humongous deal ever since I attended St. Pius X. This was the one game that we couldn’t lose we had to prove that we were the superior high school on Shepherd drive. I wanted to see how my old high school was preparing for “Thomas Week.” Although, St. Pius X is currently 3-4 their spirits are high and they will give it 100% in order to win the showdown this Friday. The practice Wednesday was a slow paced walkthrough, but I could tell who had potential based on their size, built, movement, stats and energy. I interviewed these four athletes to see what their mindset was during “Thomas Week.”
#2 Nethaneel Loolo WR, CB Jr
I noticed Nethaneel Loolo has great speed and quickness during practice. Nethaneel played both offense and defense as a wide receiver and cornerback. I interviewed asking him which position he preferred better Nethaneel said “Cornerback because I feels like I’m being myself.” I also asked him how he felt about the incoming game this week and he told me “To be honest it’s a regular game I’m going to do me turn up.”
#4 Jackson Mobley WR, CB Jr
Jackson Mobley is a wide receiver with good hands and good awareness. Jackson also plays on defense as a cornerback in my interview he told me preferred playing the slot receiver. Jackson also told me that he loves playing baseball as well. Jackson is a very energetic and honest young man you can tell the way he was answering my questions that he has a lot of pride in being a St. Pius X Panther. Jackson is very excited for the upcoming game and give it his best this Friday night.
#9 Vincent Doucet WR, SS Jr
Vincent Doucet plays wide receiver and strong safety. Vincent has a great built for receiver very tall and has speed and quickness I would say one thing about him is he needs to learn how to relax and not rush his catches. I asked Vincent how he felt about the incoming game and he said “I’m looking forward to Friday night it’s a rival game so of course it means something else compared to all the others.” Vincent also told me he preferred playing on offense as a wide receiver because he’s more use to it, but he loves making tackles and stops on defense.
#23 Burke Battenfield RB, LB Sr
Burke Battenfield plays both running back and linebacker. Burke has impressive stat sheet. Burke in his seven game has 66 overall tackles with 33 solos and 33 assists and on defense and he has 67 carries with 340 rushing yards and scoring five touchdowns on offense. I asked Burke how he felt about the incoming game and he said “The week has been good I’m focused on game.” Burke told me that he preferred to play linebacker on defense because he likes to make plays.
