The St. Frances Academy Panthers pulled off an extremely impressive victory at De La Salle (CA) this past weekend. SFA got off to a hot start, and they took a 21-7 early lead with [player_tooltip player_id="90510" first="John" last="Griffith"] leading the charge. A [player_tooltip player_id="90522" first="Terron" last="Kellman"] fumble momentarily swung the momentum back to De La Salle, but in the end the Panthers proved to be too much on both sides of the ball. St. Frances Sophomore quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="172210" first="Michael" last="Van Buren"] saw the majority of the snaps in this game, and he became only the third quarterback in the history of high school football to throw 4+ touchdown passes against De La Salle. It’s obvious that St. Frances is the most dominant team in the state right now, and they’re certainly playing like it. Let’s take a look at some of the star Panthers from St. Frances’ win. ST. FRANCES ACADEMY Offense: 2024 6’0 175 QB – [player_tooltip player_id="172210" first="Michael" last="Van Buren"] The overall MVP of this game was unanimously MVB. Michel Van Buren literally set records against De La Salle, becoming one of three quarterbacks in the history of high school football to throw 4+ touchdown passes against the California based program. As a Sophomore, Van Buren is without question the future quarterback of this St. Frances Academy team, and the future certainly looks very bright for the Panthers. Van Buren’s arm already looks D1 level, and he’s in the graduating high school class of 2024. 2022 6’0 185 WR – [player_tooltip player_id="90619" first="Ike" last="White"] [player_tooltip player_id="90619" first="Ike" last="White"], the Minnesota commit, played incredibly solid against De La Salle. He demonstrated his elite footwork and dynamic play making ability with his hands as well. White doesn’t always get the playing time he should due to the depth of this St. Frances squad, however, White definitely stood out in this game with his energy and efficiency at the position. The D1 bound receiver is going to do great things in the BIG 10 for the Golden Gophers. 2022 6’2 180 RB – Durell Robinson Durell Robinson continues to be a solid addition to the St. Frances Academy backfield. Alongside [player_tooltip player_id="90522" first="Terron" last="Kellman"], Robinson is able to confuse defenses and utilize his incredible speed and agility to gain huge chunk plays. He’s utilized mostly as a runner, but he’s also able to catch passes, screens mostly, and turn up the field for big gains. With his vision, Durell Robinson has the potential to play a crucial role on a team at the D1 level. 2022 5’11 170 WR – [player_tooltip player_id="90512" first="Lamar" last="Patterson"] [player_tooltip player_id="90512" first="Lamar" last="Patterson"] was utilized in the backfield in this contest, and he delivered a huge early run for the Panthers that gave them a boost. Patterson is a two way player who can influence a ball game as both an offensive and defensive player. He certainly proved that in this contest and he’ll look to add to his highlight reel this Saturday against ANC. 2022 5’9 170 RB – [player_tooltip player_id="90522" first="Terron" last="Kellman"] The most consistently productive player on this St. Frances team is without question [player_tooltip player_id="90522" first="Terron" last="Kellman"]. He’s the anchor for this program this season, and there’s no hiding just how efficient he has been from the very start. He had a minor setback in this contest with an early fumble, however, he proved his greatness by dealing with the adversity head on and using it as fuel to play even better from that point forward. Kellman did absolutely that in this contest, and he will continue to pile up huge numbers amidst his record setting season next week against ANC. 2022 5’11 190 WR – [player_tooltip player_id="136032" first="Malik" last="Baker"] [player_tooltip player_id="136032" first="Malik" last="Baker"] demonstrated a ton of comfort and chemistry with Sophomore quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="172210" first="Michael" last="Van Buren"]. The two connected on a few key third down conversions, which kept De La Salle off the field, and also for a couple of big time plays. If [player_tooltip player_id="172210" first="Michael" last="Van Buren"] continues to see more playing time for the Panthers then expect [player_tooltip player_id="136032" first="Malik" last="Baker"]’s productivity to go nowhere but up. The two clearly have a solid relationship because Friday night was totally a breakout game for [player_tooltip player_id="136032" first="Malik" last="Baker"]. Defense: 2022 6’4 245 DL – [player_tooltip player_id="90499" first="Derrick" last="Moore"] The Oklahoma commit was absolutely all over the field for the Panthers in this one. De La Salle’s offensive line struggled mightily throughout the contest, and the reason was because [player_tooltip player_id="90499" first="Derrick" last="Moore"] relentlessly imposed his will on them. The De La Salle running game was nothing to write home about, but, in their defense, all of the gaps were clogged with St. Frances defenders. Moore dominated from start to finish, and it’s more evident than ever just how ready he is for the next level. 2022 6’1 280 DL – [player_tooltip player_id="137170" first="Cornell" last="Evans"] [player_tooltip player_id="137170" first="Cornell" last="Evans"] made tackle after tackle in the backfield for St. Frances. The Buffalo commit was simply too much to handle, especially when combined with his fellow defensive linemen, and his size and speed proved dominant. [player_tooltip player_id="137170" first="Cornell" last="Evans"] is definitely ready for the college game. 2023 6’5 250 DL – Da’shawn Womack Da’shawn Womack had the breakout game of his high school career in this contest, as he took it to De La Salle on every single play. Womack was a force to be reckoned with who could not be stopped even by multiple blockers. He displayed high level knowledge of how to breach the backfield with speed and efficiency, and it’s clear that he is wise beyond his years on the defensive line. Da’shawn Womack is a name that scouts everywhere need to know because he’s going to do big things next year for St. Frances and beyond at the D1 level.
